Trek 6000 or Specialized Rockhopper

I am getting a mountain bike on the BTW scheme but only have one store to choose from with my company so I have a choice of a Specialized Rockhopper or a Trek 6000 for the upper end of the 1000euro budget. Anyone have any input on which is better or are they of fairly similar quality?
