Quick question about bodyfat %

    Hu all, I have recently started the insanity fitness programme. The problem I have is altough I am losing weight my bodyfat % has gone from 26 to 30. How the hell do I get it down to a healtier figure like 10-15%.

    I did insanity also last year. How long into are you? I know in month 1 personally i saw no real movement in the scales but my clothes were fitting me differently. You shouldnt be gaining bodyfat if you are doing the programme and eating properly. I know in the first week or two your body takes an awful pumelling with all the jumps and stuff so your legs and muscles could be holding fluid to protect themselves

    how are you measuring your body fat? some methods are better than others.

    @ dixie chick. I have just done a week of it and maybe you are right about the muscles as I done cardio power and resistance last night before going playing soccer for an 1 hour and 1/2

    @rocky. I use a weighing scales that sends a small current through the body.

    @rocky. I use a weighing scales that sends a small current through the body.
    testing method is not accurate - just use your clothes size and whip your phone out and take a picture, compare in a month NOT a week

    Hi Transform, quick question:

    When you say it's not accurate, just how inaccurate are we looking at here? +/- 3 or 4 per cent?

    not accurate when 12hrs later the score can be off by 1-3% which is impossible.

    Ah okay. I have used them with great consistency in the past. Also, I suppose a lot of visceral fat can be lost without it being noticeable on visible parts of the body. I think these scales are a lot more accurate than a standard weighing scales, but I certainly don't take them as gospel.

    The most accurate measure (an adapted MRI scan) is shown in the video below:



    If you look at parts 2 and 3 of the video series on Youtube, you can witness the dissection of a morbidly obese woman during an autopsy. Not pleasant viewing. At all.

    a scales is a terrible measure of fat loss progress and i refer again back to clothes and a pic

    Those scales are shockingly inaccurate. Mine can vary by five percent from morning to night, and the more hydrated I am, the lower my bodyfat reading. If I'm coming in from a long cycle, my bodyfat shoots up.

    Ignore the scales, go by naked photos (and make sure no-one else has access to your phone).

    How do you find the insanity program? They are starting it in my gym soon so I'm just curious. I've looked it up on youtube and it seems fairly intense! :eek:

    I don't think it's even possible to gain 4% body fat in one week, so the method you're using to find the body fat must be inaccurate.

    Secondly, weight and body fat aren't linked. It's totally possible to lose weight and gain body fat. You can do that through burning muscle, by doing jogging and such at low intestity. If you're not putting the muscle mass back on, you can raise your BD%

    @lago I didn't gain it in a week....it was only 2 days. It dropped to a more "normal" level the next day so something most have went wrong with the scales.

    Scales are a horrifically innacurte way of measuring body fat %, so don't get too fixated. GO by the scales GENERAL trend over time, photos and measurements.

    the scales i have is accurate for measuring body fat. i get the same result with it as i get by personal trainers measuring my body fat
