Work Experience/Summer Internship

    Dear all,

I'm just about to finish up with my undergraduate B.A. Finance & Accounting this May (expecting a 1st class honours), and will be starting the M.A. Accounting in mid September.

I am interested in finding a place to put the knowledge I've gained through the degree program to use - whether in a practice or in industry, large or small organization, start-up or established.

Ideally I would like to find a role in an accounting/bookkeeping/business development/financial control capacity between the months of June and September.

I have over 4 years of experience in a supervisory capacity in the entertainment and leisure industry, as well as being the Treasurer of my college Water-Polo club.

Bearing in mind the current trading environment, and the difficulties firms are facing, I would not expect to receive significant remuneration. Really, it is the practical experience that I am seeking.

I'd be more than happy to forward my CV, references, and cover letter to any parties interested.

If you are not directly interested in this opportunity to take on an enthusiastic, bright, diligent intern - could you please point me in the right direction, or offer some advice of how I can reach my goal.

PS - I am based in Meath, but can commute to surrounding counties with ease.

    Many thanks.

    Robert Blake.

Should've applied to the Big 4 a few weeks ago.

Btw, are you financing your own Masters? It'd be awful expense if you're not getting a sponsorship.

I am personally financing my M.A. Accounting. I view it as an investment, since I am committed to qualifying as an accountant.

I think was he means is, if you applied to a firm earlier, they might of paid for your masters on the condition you join their firm after you qualified.

On a second note, the Big 4 have filled their summer internship programs weeks ago.

On a third note, you'll be extremely lucky to get paid at all

on a fourth note, firms don't contact you, you contact them.

To give you my advice, live up to your hard working claim and start contacting smaller firms,

try typing in "accounting meath" into google, develop a list of accounting firms and then ring them all up one by one and ask them if they do internships

    Lavadude,

Thank you for your input and ideas.

    1) I am fully aware of the Big 4 opportunities that were available. It's a little after the fact though, since the application periods have all closed. Same with the graduate programs, which I had interviewed for.

    2) I have started contacting smaller firms several weeks ago already. I am not the idle person you are making me out to be.

    Thanks,
    Rob.

Any joy on the searching Rob?
It is tough out there at the moment especially if it is difficult to land a position at little or no pay

    Hey loveacca,

No luck yet! Yeah it is pretty tough, but I've still a good few firms to get through before calling it a day. There are also quite a few accounts assistant/bookkeeper jobs floating around on informal job websites. Citi have a summer analyst position as well.

    Rob.

Hey all new to boards. I am having the same problem as yourself with trying to find work experience down in Cork. A real nightmare as I have to try to improve my CV for final year in college. I've tried everything from small accounting practices to MNCs but no luck yet
