    Hi,

I just decided this weekend that I would be coming to TCD next year as a junior freshman (first year) in the Science course, going into Neuroscience.
I'm from the U.S.A., specifically Charlottesville, VA (that's near Washington D.C.).

So yeah. I'm kind of terrified/excited. Anybody want to say hi to me/talk about TCD/anything? Tell me your stories here, or: AIM: Vaskis4life, skype: Vaskis4life, FB: Vaskis4life (you get the idea.)

    -Virginia

It'll be mid-August before Irish students know they've gotten into TCD, but I suppose people can guess...

As a current first year class of 2015, I'm not excited.

    None of you should be.

    Four more years...

    What made you pick Trinity?

I've just finished my second year of science (just exams to go now!), and one thing I would have liked to have been told is that you don't just choose a moderatorship and get it. There's quotas of how many students can be in each moderatorship so everyone puts down their choices in order of preference at the end of second year, but if one of them has more people wanting to do it than the quota, you're in competition based on your second year exams. So no ones really guaranteed their preferred moderatorship just by getting into science.

Also, that by the time you get to second year a lot of people completely change their mind about what they want to do anyway!

Any specifics you wanna know? You planning on staying in Halls?

He's hardly going to go to UCD, to be fair.

Never pay any attention to anything Denerick ever says, ever.

You should also seriously consider applying for halls, its by far the best way to start in Trinity if your coming from overseas.

If all goes to plan I should be starting in Trinity next year as well.

What made you decide to leave the States for university? Simply the fees?

I have to say I'm pumped for Trinity in September :)

I recommend any overseas students to not bother booking into Halls accommidation. Its overpriced and very basic.

Definetely try and look for a flat in Ballymun area, its close to the city and it has a really good student campus atmosphere.

Either that or Dolphins Barn, Sherrif St. or Ballyfermot.

I am also starting next year, and looking forward to it.

A word of advice, block those two morons who suggested ballymun and the other areas, they are obviously trolls who have nothing better to do.

I would recommend staying away from those areas unless you are a masochist.

Ignore the above accommodation recommendations, they are in areas that are both dodgy and, in the case of Ballymun, miles away from Trinity. If you want to know where to live ask the International Office for help. Also Halls is great but its way more expensive than anywhere else in Dublin, but its a great social leg up for when you arrive.

jony_dols and Denerick, please read the charter and refrain from giving deliberately unhelpful advice.

As I explained in my PM, I think you are being elitist as I wasn't being 'deliberately unhelpful' at all, rather trying to direct the OP to some suitable housing.

Please keep PMs to PMs. Complaints to the helpdesk or category mods. Further trolling will result in a ban.

As one of the few TCD students living in Ballymun, I'm deeply offended.
It takes just under 35 minutes to get into town from my gaf on the bus. (the same distance as students coming in on the bus from Stillorgan/Blackrock)

I live in accommodation with another TCD student and 2 other DCU students, and it's on DCU's doorstep with all the university facilities, shops ect. just next door.

It's a lot cheaper and better equipped than Halls.

The mods and the previous posters are a bunch of snobs, who obviously can afford to throw their cash about on over-priced accommodation in Milltown.

I resent that, I'm not a snob, I'm basically a farmer, but to be honest i prefer accommodation in a more. . umm suitable environment, if that means paying more then call me a snob, i just have no desire to pay medical bills for getting stabbed, or worse, an STD from one of the locals. :D

Yeah your right. I'd rather be a scumbag from Ballymun, than a turf-cutter Biffo anyday. When your counties best and brightest is Brian Cowen, you know you can't get any lower in the social ladder.

Well I'll give you credit for at least reading a news paper now and again :) but political awareness really isn't your strong suit if you are going to blame Irelands downfall on one person.

Having said that, we could piss and moan back and forth all year about who has the worst rep etc etc, but thats off topic of this thread, how about we agree to disagree until we meet in another thread! :D
