Hi all, we have had upc phone and broadband installed (eircom previously) and now I realise that the hkc alarm is not texting us on activation, can I run a cable to the upc phone to re enable this?

Also to make things more complicated we have a very very poor mobile phone signal here, most times we have to go to back or front garden to make / recieve mobile calls and texts can either be perfect or take an hour or more to recieve while indoors, forget multimedia messages they just wont send or recieve from this location.

I know all codes for this alarm system, engineering etc.

If not then what can I do apart from getting a "real" landline installed.

    Many thanks.

UPC will not send text with the HKC text modem. What you could do is add a voice dialer onto the alarm as this will send a voice message when the alarm activates through UPC.

Yes. I have tried to find out but no joy. Although it is an analog line I cant get a device to work. Will work for voice.

sorry yeah, but it will only ring one number at a time correct? where as it textes all of them at the one time?

That is correct, it will try ring the first number 3 times then ring the second number if it does not get an acknowledgement from them. This can be cut down if you require. Another thing about a text is if your sitting there having your dinner or doing something else your more inclined to leave a text till your finished, where as with a phone call your more likely to answer it straight away.

The whole issue around this is down to the different company's not having a contract in place to bill each other for the text service. That is what it all boils down too. UPC wont be able to do anything for you.

A standalone text unit will work, texecom make one that will work with any phone provider
