I have an old Raleigh racer that I'm going to turn into a tourer,Im sure I'm not the first to do this. Has anyone any tips as to gear ratios Or anything else. I'm planing on a whole new drivetrain. I have to check if I can put a new bottom bracket on an old frame.any recommendations anyone?
    Thanks all

i'm doing something similar but to be honest i would not consider putting racks on it,the tubing is way to thin (RALEIGH 753),
instead have you thought about a trailer i bought a look alike bob trailer on ebay it has a speacial quick release that replaces the one on your back wheel.
mind you i'm still going to put all new gear on it like 9 speed sti leavers triple chainset 50/36/24.TA rings.new front/rear shimano mechs and a new back wheel only because my own wheel needs a new hub.
i do have a thorn tourer but my raleigh would make a great light weight tourer hopefully.

Cheers fleck sake lads (love the name by the way) I have I dawes tourer meself, and the Raleigh would be used mainly for short trips 3 or 4 days, so I recon the trailer would be over kill( plus the wife would probably want to get into it  )
I was thinking of putting a moustache handlebar same kind of set up as this

What do you recon? Did you change your bottom bracket?

Made me laugh, thanks for that. If you get a pannier, she'll probably want a backer, pretty sure mine would.
