I am one year into studying Spanish and I am unsure what to focus on. Should I be reading grammer books to study, for example, when to use subjunctive, direct/indirect objects etc or should I be reading on line to increase vocabulary.

Is it more important that I listen to various podcasts as I find this tough as it still seems very fast and obviously there are many words I don't know so it isn't possible to understand them.

Should I be writing in Spanish?

Obviously all these things have to be done at some stage but I just don't know the order, or the priorities I should have.

Practice speaking, unless you plan to be writing emails or letters forever the most important thing you can do is speak as much as you can. if you can manage it, you can have as deep or long or technical a conversation as you like. So, try to make some contacts, find an intercambio or some means of practicing conversation.

Everything. Learn the grammar rules and practice with some language exercises. Then read anything Spanish you can get your hands on, listen into some Spanish radio stations online, and see if you can strike up a language exchange - having someone to practice on will work wonders.
