a bit bland inside and out, knowing hyundai the 3.3 v6 probably puts out about the same as a 2.5 bmw engine , if i was going to pay 1566 in tax Id rather an older 7er or S class, its overpriced as for less than a grand more youd easily get a GS300 in good nick

    verdict : SALEPROOF

it looks like a sonata that's had too many pies.

that said, like most modern hyundais it looks like a lot of car for the cash!

I reckon it would do CarinaBoy, as road tax wouldn't be an issue and he seems to like obscure executive saloons from Asia.

As hyundai go, its not half bad. Still, he will surely have to give it away Id say.

Dont worry petrol prices are still very much applicable to me!!

does anyone else think that no matter how hard they try, the far eastern brands just can appeal to our European tastes and the quality expected by us. I mean I am pretty sure these guys tried really hard to make this a quality interior but it still looks awful and cheap to me.

more specifically - he won't be able to give it away unless someone is passing by with 7k in his pocket and is too drunk to walk

233 horses, according to this: http://uk.cars.yahoo.com/car-reviews/car-and-driving/hyundai-grandeur-1005925.html

I was actually thinking the opposite. Where previous efforts like the XG were absolutely awful both inside and outside, this has more of an air of quality about it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,638 ✭✭✭zilog_jones

It's certainly an improvement from the XG, but still pretty bland. Those seats don't look great, and the dashboard is a mess - the climate control and and stereo LCD panels are differing shades of green, then there's a VF display (vacuum-fluorescent - you know, like the clock in your 1987 Corolla, or your VHS video recorder :) ) for the clock above, then an orange-on-black LCD panel for the trip computer. It's like they just stuck a load of random bits together - for a premium car I'd expect at least some consistency

    the description is rather optimistic
This is a amazing very rare car that cost over €70,000 New RRP, This is the Hyundais equalivant of Mercedes S Class or BMW's 7 Series.

70 grand :eek::eek: it must have been a demo

good lord no, this is indistinguishable from a toyota yaris - actually I think the Yaris would be better. It's supposed to be an S-Class or 7 series rival

    e65 7 series interior

    S Class

It would have been about €50k new, not €70k (£27k UK price)

I can see it find a buyer. Someone only interested in a large and very comfy car with a good spec. Maybe if the €1,566 tax is out of the equation and the 9 year rule comes back in, for a taxi driver with a small budget and a bad back? :D

I think the seller is slightly misinformed. I am almost certain that this car was intended as a rival to upper 5 Series/E-Class models.

I could easily see that sold for €5500/€6000, knock 3 years out of it and scrap it if no one will take it away for tiny money. There's a buyer out there for everything. A funeral home etc as well as some taxi folk would be interested at the right price.

Didn't think of that one. The car is black after all :D

Do they have PSV motor tax rates?

I'm not 100% sure but I would think so, wedding cars have PSV tax and most funeral homes do the wedding gigs too (down here anyway it's not uncommon), the local funeral home has Rolls Royce motors that don't do funerals.

Maybe from an old GS interior from the 90's

Definately not from the more modern lexus's or even lexus's around at the time this car went into production http://images.tuningblogger.de/uploaded_images/Lexus_2007_IS_220d_silber_3.jpg

He already turned his nose up at it - would cost more to fuel than you get on the meter I reckon.

New car sales guide for June 06 has it listed as €42,000 and 232bhp.

Full service history, with no expense spared, and having had a brief drive of a very similar car, it actually shifts pretty well. That said, they are about the only plus points to the car - that, and it was a customer owned one so we didn't take a bath on it :D:D:D

Aren't those yokes front wheel drive as well?

I'd say that and a big V6 under the bonnet means it'll handle like a boat!

Mondeo ST220 is fwd, they handle ok ;)
But I reckon the Hyundai is more a wafter than a handler by design.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 51,360 ✭✭✭✭bazz26

The Hyundai was designed as a leather couch on wheels, not as a sports car.

Stop the press, there exists a Ford that you actually like:eek::D!

In fairness the Mondeo is well known for being a great drive, I don't think the Hyundai was ever designed with even a hint of driving pleasure in mind, especially as I've checked the old interweb and it says this yoke is indeed front wheel drive!

Well the MG ZT is a better example of a V6 engined fwd car handling well as it p1sses all over (just about) an ST220 handling wise but one must post to the audience on here ;) Also the ST220 is 3.0 so closer to the capacity of the yoke in the Hyundai.

I wouldn't fancy an ST220 due to the looks and it would remind me too much of the boggo LX deysel I spent 25,000 miles in :)

Any Volvo engined Ford is fine by me though, the decent ones are !!

Man, you've got to stop taking what Autocar say as gospel.

Modern Fords handle well, but do very little else.

You're just bitter about how Ford managed Volvo aren't you;)?

(FWIW they managed Volvo really badly)

If you were really a follower of Autocar you'd know they think the new Mk3 Focus is not a good car to drive at all!

A much nicer looking car, but at near 20k thats way above used VW Phaeton V10TDI and W12 money which is leagues ahead of either of these. AWD too.
Phaeton is a reskinned Bentley so its always going to win obscure, used luxobarge top trumps.
