My first suggestion to all lads looking for a good new or second hand shotgun without breaking the bank would be the Bettinsoli.

They range from €800 - €1,300. The are excellent quality, well made, good stock with nice engraving. Secondhand about €450 - €500 for a good one. They come with multiple chokes and the Bettinsoli's are made/offshoot of Beretta.

Other makes to look at are Yildiz, Baikal. They are around the €550 mark new and obviously less second hand. They are a bit "less refined", but still a good gun and well capable of doing what you need to get started.

Alan, what i would suggest to you is ask a few lads you know who have shotguns if can you get a shot out of theirs. See what you think feels right shooting and take it from there. Be it new or second hand, money is hard come by at the moment and you might as well get something you like than forking out for something ya dont like after a few shots.

for that price you are looking at Lumar,Betinsoli,Remington,Baikal,Yildiz,Browning, Fabarm etc
in teh second hand or nearly new bracket.

I'd try and go to the top of your budget and get a nice tryglo bead on your shotgun rib to aid with duck and bird shooting

Would keep a semi auto in mind too, less recoil and some would argue a bit less bulky than an o/u or side by side for rough shooting! On the downside some peope disaprove of them when shootig with others!

Dont buy the idea of recoil is less with such and such a gun. Let that be the least of your worries, Ive shot many different shotguns, from Baikal to Beretta if you mount the gun properly and hold on with a firm grip you wont feel recoil as much as a careless mounting..
Best bet is take a trip to your local firearms dealer and browse around, mount a few guns and see what you feel you like. Dont be blinded by brands or prices awhile. Look at them after. Also dont let the salesman push you into buying such and such a brand.

Best of look with the search, keep us posted and ask lots of questions- get plenty of answers :D

Also what part of Cork are you located?

I wouldn rule out lanber either. Not the sexiest looking, but a good solid gun.

Have a Lanber 2077 myself, great gun. Most Lanbers are heavy but mine is a game model. Very light and little recoil, pity about the mule using it.... :pac:

have a look at the lanber victoria, great gun, seconad hand for around 300-500euro. also have a look at silma, good gun for the money.

make sure you like the gun, and if u find one you like thats out of your price range, my advice save. dont settle.

one last thing make sure the gun fits you, its probaly the most important thing.

    Ya can't bate the Turks.

Make sure you get an upmarket Yildiz, exchangeable chokes ejector etc.

not the Box standard version as you'll never resell

the yildiz will do you for starting off, but they dont last in the long run.
for that price is it the one with the black action? if so its a F/C and N/E which i would advise against

they would be OK! for game shooting, but if you start shooting a few clays you would be aswell to get rid of it, and dont expect a good trade in with it.

Either would i,i'd say their a royal ball of Sh1te ,they'd suite someone that played golf,if Lidl done shotguns:rolleyes:,get a Baikal, their the automative equivelint of an oul Hilux, not a show pony but a work horse,if your not shooting with it you can bate briars,or drive stakes with it and it'll still work.

Alan Exridax advise is sound the Bettinsoli would be a good choice also a second hand Browning etc, etc, but drop into a few dealers with a good secondhand selection and try them all on for size. If something comes up well and you like the feel then you are 90% there.
Lovely spot your from. I went out with a girl originally from there for years, she was an O' Connor. Its a great village, I always loved it.
