Victoria Azarenka.... Future World No.1?

Any opinions? A lot of people have been predicting great things from Azarenka for several years now but it's only recently that her game seems to be really clicking.. For one thing, she's seriously upped the agility level. Anyone catch her Miami matches? Her movement was almost up there with the likes of Clijsters 'n' Jankovic. Major turnaround given that it's been such a key weakness for her in the past.. The forehand's been ironed out too and has become hugely effective.. The 2nd serve's nowhere near the liability it had been.. Plus, she's not acting like a fruit-loop on court anymore which is pretty encouraging (though the crazy shrieking continues). This week she's broken the top 5 (having won back-to-back titles in Miami and Andalucia), but I'm sensing that she's probably going to rocket to the top in the next few years?

Just looking at the sorry state of the women's game these days, the Williams are seemingly on the way out, Clijsters is leaving the tour in a year and former threats like Sharapova, Jankovic, Kuznetsova etc. don't look like they'll ever get back to their best.. I had high hopes for Stosur but she hasn't got the mental strength to play consistently well.. Wozniacki's a v.beatable world no.1 for anybody with a bit of fire-power and Zvonareva's.... well.. Could Azarenka be the most promising prospect on the tour at the moment? On recent form, I think she's defo got the game to trouble the vast majority of players. Plus, at 21, she's still got a lot of time to improve further.. I know getting to World No.1 isn't the achievement it used to be on the WTA, but I would pick her out as a possible 'worthy' top seed, ie. one who'd pick up at least a few GS's in the years ahead.. Anyone agree/disagree/have another likely contender in mind?

Its an absolute certainty barring injury or some other unforseen event in her life. I also feel she will remain there for quite a time unlike the likes of Safina, Jankovic and Ivanovic.

I am liking the look of Andrea Petkovic. She got to the quarters at the Australian open and got to the semi finals at Miami beating Wozniacki and Jankovic on the way. Lost out in a 3 setter to Sharapova in the Semi final. She still has a bit to go but reckon she will be a player for the future.

Kvitova and Goerges are also young players that inspire confidence for the future of womens tennis.

Beat Azarenka 2-0 to win the Madrid Masters.:)

It was her third title this year. She trashed Kim Clijsters and Petkovic in the other two as well.

She is going to be very dangerous at the French and Wimbledon (reached the semi's last year)

    This girl is serious class.

Taking some time out from tennis apparently.. Kinda feel sorry for her. Her career fell apart pretty dramatically..

Yeah, she's a v.solid player with plenty of time and scope to improve.. The only real question-mark might be her mentality. When her shot-making's clicking, she really feeds off the positive energy, brings the crowd into the match etc. But when things go a bit off, she totally slumps.. Her Miami semi against Sharapova was a bit worrying. Took the first set, then lost the next two 6-0 and 6-2 partly because she mentally cracked up when Sharapova started upping her game..

Yeah, Kvitova's defo a hope for the future. V.powerful player. Is seeded 9th for the French apparently. I remember that Wimbledon semi against Serena was much better than the actual Williams v Zvonareva final..

As for Azarenka, was such a shame she picked up that elbow injury in Rome.. Looked a dead cert. to thump Sharapova off the court on the day. Will be interesting to see how her French Open goes..
