Another buyer needs your help! Audi A6 and Ford Focus

    Hey guys,

Gonna buy a 2006 Audi A6 1.9L Auto (65k miles) this weekend. Before I hand over the cash has anyone had any experience with this car? How is its fuel efficiency? Any problems with Audi autos? Is there a different car you'd recommend?

On a side note I'll be trading in my Focus as part of the sale. It's a 1.4L Focus LX hatchback (95k miles) in reasonable condition - small crack on the rear bumper if that matters. Any ideas on what I should be looking to get? Would €4,500 be too much?

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance

Can't really help I'm afraid except to say that I'd be concerned that the 1.9 is too small for a car that size?

I've a 06 Passat myself with the 2L TDI DSG/auto box and found the 1.9 version very underpowered for a car this size - and the A6 would be bigger/heavier again.

On the plus side though, great choice of car itself - it's exactly what I'd be looking to change to next, except in the 2.0 TDI version :)

If you still have the choice, try and get a spin in the 2L version before you part with your cash would be my advice.

The 2006 A6 didn't come in 1.9 TDi. The smallest diesel engine was the 2.0 TDi. The VAG 2.0 PD TDi have been known to give alot of problems especially around injectors which are expensive to replace. I've also read that the multitronic gear box can be problematic too. No personal experience of either though.

Regarding the trade-in price of your Focus. The importand figure is how much it will cost you to trade up to the A6. Trade-in prices can be inflated to make it look like you are getting a super deal when all they do is add it back onto the price of the newer car.

They came in the 1.9 TDI allright but were very scarce. They were in the 130BHP IIRC.

I think you are talking about the older A6. The current one from 2004 didn't have the 1.9 TDi fitted.

Merc. E200 petrol is only 1.8 and there's no shortage of them around.

Well that is a first for me as I always thought that engine was dropped from the A6 when that model was launched.

I think you may be right.

I have never seen or heard of that old nail of an engine in the C6 A6. There is nothing to suggest that the above car has it besides the advert description, which is most likely a mistake.

100% sure that engine is not offered in C6. Seller has his or her information wrong. A HPI check / motorcheck scan would reveal the correct engine to be 2.0.

Thanks for the help guys. It's advertised as a 1.9 petrol but if you do a quick history check it comes up as a 2.0.

Btw I was talking to a dealer today who told me i'd be lucky to get €3k for my Focus which is pretty annoying. I might have a rethink about what i'm getting.

Budget is €10k max. Automatic is preferable but not necessary, diesel is preferable but not necessary. It's very important that it's a reliable comfortable car as I spend a lot of time in it. My focus just isn't a bit comfortable. I'm in sales so the car would preferably be stylish business car. Any suggestions?

Just been looking at the newer model Focus. Could get an auto diesel for €8kish. Would be a boring upgrade but would be comfortably within my budget. The new style Mondeo would as well but I wouldn't get an auto diesel within €10k. I've been looking at so many cars now i'm starting to go off the idea of buying! Really need to upgrade though, my Focus drinks petrol for fun and is far from a comfortable drive.

Your help is very much appreciated!

It is there is a load of them on that site. You dont know as much about Audis as you let on..

You seem to be tired of the Focus and want a change, Having had one, there are so many around and indeed they are plain. But the reason there are so many about is that they are pretty reliable and I found mine most comfortable. So much that when I traded for a mondeo, I am now thinking of changing back to a focus three years later ;);)

1.9tdi was never fitted to that model A6.
Garage have incorrectly labelled it. Smallest diesel was 2.0 tdi in that body.
The previous model had 1.9tdi all right.

All I can think it is is laziness on the sellers behalf. The 2.0TFSI 170 petrol comes with 1984cc and the 2.0TDI 140 comes with 1968cc but both are regarded as 2.0 engines. Someone just probably looked at the cc and thought 1.9 but cc always rounds to closest litre for engine size.

Seriously dude - that engine was never on sale in the C6. If you get that chassis number in the link i will prove it for you.

Parkers link and wikipedia linking showing C6 engine line up below.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audi_a6#C6

Besides 110 hp in a car that size would be ludicrous.

In the newer A6 car there was never a 1.9 TDI engine put into the car due to EU regulations I think. The badge on that car is right simple as, it is a 2l.
