    Licence fear for SECC after darts shame game

    SECC bosses may face a probe into the venue’s suitability to host-high profile events after ugly scenes at a darts match.

    Strathclyde Police contacted Glasgow’s Licensing board after a pint of lager and coins were thrown during a Premier League Darts match last month.

    Sanctions the venue may face following any hearing include a change to its licence or, in a worst case scenario, its licence to hold events could be revoked.

    During the encounter on March 17, English star Adrian Lewis was hit with lager and a coin hurled from a 6500 sell-out crowd during his match with Scot Gary Anderson. Strathclyde Police have said no “criminal investigation” was taking place.

    However, a spokeswoman said officers had contacted Glasgow’s Licensing Board about the venue, saying it was “normal practice” if officers had concerns.

    It is understood licensing standards officers and police were in talks late on Wednesday, however the report from police had not yet officially reached the licensing board.

    A Glasgow licensing board spokesman said the outcome of any review was “decided by the individual merits of the case in question”.

    A spokesman for the SECC said a hearing will be held only if deemed necessary.

    He added: “We look forward to working closely with Strathclyde Police for future events in this style, looking at ways to improve security procedures.”

    i don't think it was the venue's fault, it's the PDC's terrible security that failed to throw the trouble makers out.

    Too true. I guess the only way the the PDC will admit there is a problem is if the venues decide its too risky and put them under pressure. Only problem is the profits for accommodating a PL round must be huge with the drink being sold by the jug full !!
