Good time for Ciaran there, should hopefully translate into good times for the longer distances.

Wow, this is impressive. Hard to judge against the 10k as he wins this race by 4.5 seconds, hitting the front with about 650 to go and powering on. There will be lots more there in a more competitive, even paced race.

There has to be a super fast 5k in this guy soon.

what do people think david mccarthy will run for 5k in mt sac? will he respond to the gauntlet laid down by the new star of irish distance running o lionard? predictions?

Can someone inform me on Olive Loughnane in Rio Maior last weekend? I can't find the complete set of results, but she was not listed among the top 10. Did she pull-out, DQ'd??

You must have a great 5k time. That or else you are sitting on your beehind while dave is running 4.30 mile pace. Either way who are you to say it is a poor time, thats for himself and his coach to decide only.

Steven Colvert scored an impressive early season win over Dean Adams at Leevale in 10.70 to the latters 10.84. No wind reading given but I'm going to guess at a slight following wind

That was a super run by Flynn, knocked over 9 seconds of his P.B.
Things obviously going in the right direction for him.

Gladys Ganiel-O'Neill ran a respectable 2:41:22hrs in London marathon, a P.B. and inside the IAAF World Championships standard of 2:43:00hrs. Not sure she will be sent to Daegu though and it probably would not be ideal prep for a tilt at the Olympic qualifying time next year anyway. Good running regardless by Gladys.

O Lionaird continued his fine form with a 1500-5k double at ACCs in 3.40.69 and 13.52.11 respectively

Made even better by the fact that he beat Robby Andrews. He's a 1.45 800 guy with a World Junior bronze from last year. The finals were within about 3 hours of each other too. This is incredibly impressive running.

Men's 200 - Russell 21.38, with Colvert 2nd in 21.39 and I think Patrick Phelan 3rd in 21.71. Serious times for April! Men's 200 is going to be exciting this year! Colvert was a guest though.

Winner of men's 400 was Mulhall before he was DQ'd. Harvey took the honours then in 49.72.

400 hurdles there was a bit of a shock with Barr beating Crowe in the end following the final hurdle in 53.92. Maher only placed 5th surprisingly...and worryingly.

The winds favoured the short sprints but both the 4 flat and hurdles were a little slower than usual with very robust swirling winds on the day.

    Results are up now http://sindar.net/iuaa/results/meet/226/

Good running by David McCarthy winning a 1500m in the US in 3.43.66. It appearedva solo effort from viewing the results. He ran a 4.01 mile at Penn this week too - good early season form.

Great to see Mark Christie make a leap forward with 13.28. A nine second pb is huge. Good work by Mark Carroll there too - a good cork man ;) Cragg may well be happy with 13.30 considering his recent mileage.

Are there any updates on Joanne Cuddihy, David Gillick or Eileen o'Keefe? I haven't heard anything about them in ages. Is O'Keefe even still competing?

Don't worry, you will soon be hearing plenty about Mr.Gillick when the summer season gets into full swing. All reports is that his new training regime in Florida under new coach Lance Brauman (who is also coach of Tyson Gay) is going very well.
As for Eileen O'Keeffe, I am not sure what her plans are, all i know is that her 2010 season was wiped out due to injury.
I haven't heard any news on Joanne for a while, but I presume she is planning a tilt on qualifying for the Daegu World Championships.

Great, I'm hopeful that 4.50m will be on her radar by next year (A standard for 2012 Olympics). 4.30 seems a big way off 4.50 but if she can keep chipping away at the record this year then who knows!?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 439 ✭✭longjump67

She needs 4.40m for the world champs this year, think that might be possible.;)

Kate Veale finished an excellent 3rd in the junior 10k at the European Cup of Race Walking in Portugal in a new national junior record of 46:32, brilliant stuff from her! Emma Prendiville 21st in 54:15.
Colin Griffin was going really well in the 50km walk, in the top 8 throughout, until he was forced to pull out with an abdominal injury at 35km.
Evan Lynch 27th in junior mens 10k in 47:08.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,076 ✭✭✭Dan man

Excellent result by Kate Veale and she has many more years at junior level ahead of her. She is a seriously talented athlete and we are lucky to have such a great crop of youngsters on the up.

Anto Leighio takes second in the NJCAA championships in a time of 1.50.63. Good time considering this was his 5th race of the weekend (4x400 heats, 1500 heats and final (3.54) and 800 heats and final)

Tomas Cotter also in action with a 9.18 in the steeple and 3.56 in the 1500 final

The lads have helped there team to a current 18 point lead in the team standings

Niall Tuohy, Ferrybank AC ran 1.49.77 in Amsterdam yesterday. 0.77 seconds off qualifying standard for Euro under 23's. And due to an administration error, ran the time on his own in the B race

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 80 ✭✭downwithfacses

    what error was that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 307 ✭✭TrackFan123

Super time by Smyth! Any chance we could have a 4x1 at the Worlds?

1st leg. Smyth - good chance of A standard by then. Can only run 1st because of his sight

2nd leg. Hession - more or less certain to be there in the 200m, hopefully close to a national record (unfortunately i think his very best days are behind him but i hope to be proven wrong)

    3. Russel or Colvert - beaten each other already this season, should both get to european u23s. Colvert has a chance of a medal in the 200 if he carries on with the massive improvements

    4. Colvert or Holmes - Holmes is the national champ, has great top speed so could run a storming anchor

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,076 ✭✭✭Dan man

Good luck to Paul Hession tomorrow...he competes in the Diamond League 200m in Rome.
