Archos 101

    Hi guys & gals,

Does anybody using this forum have an Archos 101, and if so, have they had any issues with the device freezing/hanging ?

Mine started to hang a bit a few weeks back, so I removed installed apps one by one to see if I could eliminate the problem. I subsequently found out that the problem was related to the wireless, IE: when wifi and bluetooth were turned off, the device functioned perfectly.
I tried doing a complete re-format of the device from the android menu to see if it would right the problem, with no luck.
Then I went through the device instruction booklet, and found out how to do a hard format of the device which I carried out.
This also failed, as the device boots up for the first time with wireless settings set to on so you can register the device with Google. It froze while I was still in the process of initial set up.
I'm wondering if anybody else has had similar problems. Luckily for me the 101 was still under warranty, so I sent it back to Archos for repair.
Don't think I'll be buying another of these devices.

    Hi
I have the 101 since it came out.
I have to say I had no major problems with it so far. The first firmware versions had some problems and the device was slow and caused freezing sometimes but the latest ones work very well.
What firmware are you using? I am also testing Urukdroid on the sd card and that works well too. I plan to get a faster sd and use urukdroid as default.
I never tested the BT on it but WiFi is on most of the time.
You can read the forum @ archosfans. There are some people with problems but most of them are happy with the device and so am I. The are occasional freezing/hanging but are acceptable imo. I forgot when was the last time I had to restart it..

    Thanks for the reply Gabico,

I was very happy with the device before it started to freeze on me, so who knows... I may keep it when Archos return it. Maybe I just got a dodgy model ?
I was running the latest firmware (2.2 froyo I think).

For anybody using an Archos 101, there's a new firmware update available since April 13th.

New patch is very good, has removed remaining annoyances from mine. Also, Flash 10.2 on market is hardware accelerated. So at last, the archos 101 is fully functional \o/ But, as I warned in another thread, archos 101 is now obsolete. Only worth getting if you can pick one up second hand I suppose.

Oh, I had to download that patch manually. The autoupdate wasn't picking it up, maybe because they have phased rollout so as not to overload servers?

Sounds good on the Flash 10.2 thing.

Mine never played RTE player very well, so I can't wait to try it out when I get the device back from Archos. Two weeks and counting, since I posted it to Southampton.

Can you elaborate a bit of the obsolete comment ? you kind of lost me there... why has the device become obsolete ?

It's obsolete because all the dualcore tablets are coming out now. That said, this archos pretty much does it all :) If you can put up with the small delays when opening or switching between apps then it's great.

edit: Testing rte player: success :D Seems to run smoothest when fullscreen, and is still subject to how terrible rte player is (no buffering). But it works! Same with other websites etc for streaming tv shows etc, everything works now.

I don't mind the delays at all :)

Hi Tony, I sold mine on a few days after they replaced it as I had lost faith in the 101 as a device.

Did a quick browse on google, and the issue could be wifi related, see the link here The last poster reckoned that wifi was causing the problem.

I sold it on adverts.ie. Not sure of the exact sale details, but if you check my adverts profile you will see the details. just make sure you highlight the problem to any potential buyer.
