Size of chainset is immaterial to whatever bike you have - it's the length of the crank arms.
So chainset sizing is down to the rider.
Most average sized male riders would aim for a 172.5 crank length.
CRC are great for advertising low prices, but then you find the low prices are just for the out of size options - i.e. jerseys in xxxxxl, or shorts in xxxxxsml :-)
Cassette sizing is about range and gear inches. 11-25 will give you easier hill climbs.
11-21 is a racing cassette, suited more towards less routes.
Any of the cassettes listed will fit your bike, but there may be chain length issues depending on what ratio you are running at the moment.

beware of taxes when importing from the states, as well as the much higher postage.

Check out Merlin if your buying whole groupsets. Much cheaper than CRC I'd imagine.
What groupset are you thinking of buying?

Check shinybikes.com, I have found them to be cheap enough in groupsets.

Ultegra 6700 is very nice, better than DA7800 in some ways (braking.) I'd go for it over Rival personally. But it would usually be more expensive.

    Hi,

If anyone will have an old groupset they are selling soon (after they upgrade), I would be interested as I am looking for one at the moment. Thanks

Some good links there - I'm thinking of building up a TT bike - is there anywhere cheap on the web that sells full TT groupsets? (ie with no STI shifters)

Looking at 6700 or the 7900 but I seen a custom build bike on some site for 1000 dollars with sram red gear set. Are they any good ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,995 ✭✭✭✭blorg

Red is good yes, on a level with DA7900 most would consider. Several tours won (or 'won*') on it now.

The main thing with a group is personal preference, they all work well at that level. One of the key things is simply how the hood shape fits your hands although with Red you also have to like their Doubletap shifting system. It is a lot more intuitive and easy to use than it sounds but I don't like the front shifting personally, you can't 'nudge' a missed chain up like with Shimano.

$1,000 is crazy cheap for a bike with Red BTW, to the extent I would question if it is genuine. The group retails for double that on its own.

This? If that is being sold for $1,000 I would say it is a scam. (I note the seller has only been on the site under 30 days.)

I think I just get a whole new bike. what do people think of this bike in edge sports shop

    http://www.theedge-sports.com/acatalog/info_KUOKHAR.html
For 150 more you can upgrade to 6700

Nice bike, I've been looking at it myself since one of the Edge team lads pass my house on a Kuota the other day!

However, I was also looking at groupsets and was wondering about crank length, I'm 6foot tall but haven't a clue what length inseam, what size crank should I be looking for?

I currently have a Giant defy2 2010 model with tiagra groupset, not sure what crank lenght:confused:

Measure your inseam. You will probably be good with either 175 or 172.5. I am 6ft, 33.75" inseam and use 175, although that is just because that is what my first bike had. If you are happy with what you have on the current bike stick with that- length should be stamped on the crankarm. I am not sure it is that big a deal anyway.
