The success of tag rugby makes me wonder is there a way to create a more recreational version of the game for the more casual participant?

Ennis had a Adult Hurling League for the last couple of years that was mixed, http://www.facebook.com/pages/Ennis-Adult-Hurling-League/190047293510 I don't know anything else about it, sorry

I think it's an interesting idea. My suggestions ....

    1) 7-a-side games on small pitches.

    2) Use one of the go-game sliotars (same size as a real sliotar but much lighter) - I think a lot of casual players would find this easier to use, catch and hit.

    3) Allow NO contact between players. Blocking, hooking etc are still allowed but NO shoulder-to-shoulder or other body-to-body contact.

    4) Can only carry the ball in hand for 2 steps, restrict soloing to a (small) number of steps.

    5) All scoring must be done from inside a certain line on the pitch - this wil ensure that one very good player cannot run the show from the half way line.

    6) You could do any amount of tinkering with the scoring system in mixed games, ladies point = 2, ladies goal = 4

I'm fascinated by the amount of people who play all types of soccer (5-a-side and night leagues) casually and with great enjoyment into thier 40s, 50s and even 60s. But thier is no equivalent in hurling. I'm sure some people may suggest Junior B etc, but this would only be known in the hurling community - for the really causal player there is very little out there, I'm sure there are exceptions but generally there's not much.

With such a huge interest in hurling over the last decade and more I think a game aimed at "novice" adults might prove popular.

Didn't Guinness do something like a hurling cube competition before that had shorter hurleys inside a cube

Something like what quintain has suggested would be the way to go, and definitely with a lighter ball.

But for god's sake don't compare it with tag rugby, that's a game for wimps and wusses.

ShagTag rugby is great for what it is, now what it is I don't know :p I played AIL rugby and played 3 games of tag, I will never play it again, but the social scene is great
