iBook G4 rejecting CDs/DVDs

My daughter's iBook G4, OS version 10.4 (a hand me down frm my GF) keeps ejecting any CD or DVD slotted in??? I did have a mate try to upgrade the OS a while back ...he inserted a 10.5 Snow leopard dvd and after a few mins it was rejected (ejected) ....ever since then machine won't accept ANY cd or dvd....?? Any ideas??
