I'm wondering if anyone around here is a Foursquare superuser - I recently got upgraded to a Level 1 Superuser and am wondering if there are others around.

I don't use it nearly as much as I used to. I don't check into nearly enough cool or interesting places (being the mayor of the local bus station had, as Ross put it so well, a mayor of the soup kitchen vibe).

Do you think that Foursquare was born to early and will lose out to Facebook Places?

I hope not, for several reasons

    - Foursquare have really improved their mobile phone app with the recent release. The offering is far better and they are really starting to make a feature of offers/rewards

    - Personal reason, but I have Facebook fatigue. I've unfollowed anyone whisn't a friend because I was sick of seeing it as an advertising platform. Note to businesses - if you advise me to "find us on Facebook" - I won't!

Objectively though, Facebook are gi-normous and it will be interesting to see how their offering evolves

I think that Facebook is about to leapfrog Foursquare. For a few reasons...

Foursquare was too early to market when smartphones were not as common as now and it was really the preserve of 'enthusiasts'

Facebook has the numbers and got into location based marketing point just as the tipping pint of smart phones with GPS going mass market. For many, their first experiences of location based marketing will be through Facebook.

A lot of retailers just won't get Foursquare. Facebook is a no brainer for them. Why maintain two presences when one will 500 million+ users will do.
