Unfortunately I need to sell my 2009 Audi A3 car and get a car to fit 3 car seats in the back. I am looking to get a Toyota Verso. However on a trade in they are only offering me 15,500... so would only be able to get a 2007 verso  Whats the best place to advertise it for private sale?

With a newer car like that I reckon you would be better off with Carzone to be honest.

you won't get much more than 15k privately either to be honest. Just the way the market is

As for selling it, Carzone, DoneDeal, Adverts.ie all the usual suspects. Unless priced keenly it may take months to shift. Price it right and there should be a buyer willing to do a deal.

    Jesus wept.

Do you realize that you are basically giving away a new car?

How hard have you tried to make the three kid's seats fit?

The front and rear electric mirrors caught my eye.

I'd rather put my man bits in a blender than go from a nice wee Audi to a Toyota (bad enough itself) errr Verso

On a more serious note, did you check out if there is a multimac that suits your needs? They're not cheap, but they will save you a small fortune compared to changing cars

Lets not get carried away, it's an A3 not an A8. :) A Verso is still a practical bus for ferrying around kids.

Honestly, I think it will be hard to sell that car irrespective of where it is advertised. Old style high emissions 1.6 litre petrol engine on a 09 car when everyone wants low emission diesels. Also looking at carzone there are 2 other A3 Sportbacks on sale by dealers who offer warranty, asking less than this one. I just cannot see someone paying close to €18k for that car.

Id sooner spend the 1300 snots on that child seat than get rid of a 4000km car.

    changing cars

Moving from a golf to a corolla is not a step down. :)

The corolla verso is based on the avensis too, so truly a step up :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,686 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

It would be madness to go from an 09 A3 with no miles to a 4 year old toyota with most likely a heap of miles for the same money.

They also share engines, gearboxes and some switchgear. Octavia/Leon/Golf/A3 are pretty much identical when you remove the outer body panels.

Ah I know its gonna be tough but its absolutely impossible to get the 3 car seats in the back. I cant understand how car makers these days have not cottoned on to this and somehow put 3 seats in the back. Its absolutely killing me to hand it over as I know the garage are gonna sell it on for bout 20k. Needs must tho. Ive put it up on all the places you have mentioned so fingers crossed. Its in absolutely perfect condition... the milage says it all really. Thanks for the replies. Really appreciated.

even a dealer won't get near 20k for it !!! they would be selling at about 17k with a warranty.

As for those who say it is just a golf, nonsense, sit in a MKV golf and then sit in an A3 the difference is immense.

You haven't mentioned if you're a 2 car house or not? What else is in the driveway? Could the parent on kid patrol not use the other car for kid-related situations, while the other drives the Audi?

Have you ruled out the idea of the multimac?

Also, is there finance owed on the Car?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭tfarrell

My husbands car is a company van that he cant use out of work hours. We dont owe anything on the car at all. Have got in touch with people selling 2009 versos to see if they fancy a swap. Im trying everything I possibly can.

Do you see the posts about the multimac? You seem to have ignored it completely when clearly it is a great solution for you and even at the price, much more economical than changing to an older car.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭tfarrell

While the multimac is a great idea I just dont have any spare cash to buy it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,157 ✭✭✭Compton

not being funny or anything but that just doesnt make sense, you're willing to lose loads of money or downgrade your car but can't save up a bit to buy a car seat? which may be the perfect solution to your problem.

Would you not go to an Audi delaer see if they would swap for an A4 or an A6 maybe a year or two down from '09, something that would take the three seats.

You would be crazy to get rid of a new A3 sportback. I would swap my A4 for it if I could :)

You say you own a 09 audi with no finance outstanding on it. Surely you are of suitable financial standing to obtain the cost of the car seat from credit union or somewhere. If not, it appears you should really be selling your audi and buying something much much cheaper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 80 ✭✭tfarrell

I dont have time to save up and money is very tight at the moment but Im not going into my financial position. The A4 does not fit 3 car seats in the back either so cant go down that route either. Thanks for the replies. Hopefully I get it sold or traded privately :D

Just to update ya... went out to view a Toyota Verso 2008 today... people were interested in trading... however when I got there they just wanted a straight swap  Not prepared to give me any extra cash for mine  Will keep on looking so :(

Chancing their arm, your car is of greater value, however as it doesn't suit your needs some folk will reckon you are up sh1ts creek and desperate to swap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,017 ✭✭✭lomb

I think the verso has a higher list pice than the audi ? If so its a fair swap financially if not emotionally. The 1.6 8 valve is not a good engine though.

how did parents years ago manage with 5/6 kids and only one small car??

I'd go into dealers and offer the A3.
check their sites first and see is there anything decent worth looking at.

remember, with kids a big boot - Superb, Octavia etc is as important as loads of seats for kids
room for push chairs and all the other stuff you need to feed/look after kids.

I don't know, hard to tell really. Fair enough someone looking to move to a more practical car but with limited or no funds might be seen as being in a tight suituation and ripe for picking. But equally a 1.6 petrol 09 A3 might be tough enough to sell whether it be by private or from a garage when everyone wants low motor tax diesels.

I'd say most garages in these times would not enterain the idea of taking a car in part exchange of an older lower valued one plus having to pay cash out too unless it was something that was sitting on their forecourts gathering dust for an eternity.

The reason I would say this garage are willing to do a straight swap is that like the A3 the 08 Verso is also petrol and fancy their chances of selling the A3 a bit better.
