Went to my local bike shop today, pretty small set up but 1 or 2 bikes I thought were a potential first for a road bike to be used for a 30km commute.
Anyway after seeing the bikes close up and feeling the weight and getting to talk to somebody in the know Ive decided im going to avoid the net for my first purchase (had been thinking planet x or wiggle)
Can anyone recommend a decent bricks and mortar siopa that have a decent range in the 1k bracket that I could go in and see before I buy? Preferably in dublin but would travel to the pale also , meath, louth etc.

Also kellys, fuji and the giant defy 2? Any thoughts? Last seasons giant defy2 was offered for just under a grand as he was trying to shift it. As a first bike which id hope to get 2 years out of would anybody recommend? Also I really like some of the kellys models he had instore.

    Help??

The Bike Hub in Howth is my current favourite.

These are the biggest 3 shops in Dublin:
    http://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/home.asp
    http://www.cycleways.com/store/
    http://wheelworxbikes.com/

Go during the week. They get very busy at the weekend and you might be waiting a while for someone to answer your questions.

Buying a 2010 bike might get you more bang for your buck. Prices seem to have jumped considerably for 2011.

McDonald's on Wexford Street are quite good as well. I'm getting my stuff in there since 2005 and never made bad experiences.

cheers for all the advice lads. guess ive some window shopping to do.
Getting drawn back to the giant defy 2 2010 in the lbs.
Seems a fair price for a grand.
Have to say the amount of choice can lead to confusion. its like a chinese menu where u end up just going for the chicken curry all the time cause u dont know what to do.
