Shin Splints from skipping

    Hi all,

Can anybody help me solve my shin splints problem? A few months ago I developed shin splints (inner part) from skipping at boxing. Took a few months out to rest them (due to a shoulder injury!) but when I came back to training I was fine after my first session on the Monday but on the Wednesday as soon as I started skipping I could feel pain again.

Went to my physio and she gave me some exercises and I've done a lot of calf raises in the gym too to strengthen my calves. The physio said I have high arches but orthotics probably wont do anything seeing as the problem arises from skipping!

    Any suggestions???

Shin splints are slight fractures so most likely you have sore shins due to tight shin muscles-pain can be like shin splints which are very rare!!

Anyway the tight shins need stretching so get onto your physio to stretch them out and to give you some to do at home, also wear really good footwear and that will help..and stretch between sets too.

    Best solution: Stop skipping.

If you can't bring yourself to do that, get some shock absorbing shoes and plenty of rest between sessions.

Thanks for the advice folks. Have already tried getting the stretches and rest with little success, but will actually try changing my footwear to see if that helps. Failing that I might actually just stop skipping!!

    Cheers!
