Anyone got easter knees ?

I don't cycle much during the winter, just the occasional 30km spin on a Sunday.

For the past few weeks, I stepped it up a bit, riding 50km last Saturday, 60km last Sunday and about the same for the 2 previous weekends.

After last Sundays 60km spin, my knees were hurting (nothing serious), but I feel it a bit when pedaling.

I googled it, and I found that I probably have "easter knees", a technical term for people who start riding too much in March after a winter break !

I was out yesterday for a 60km leisurely spin, my knees don't feel great, but not a massive problem, I tried to keep to an easier gear with more pedal cycles per minute to stop making it worse.........

Anyone else got easter knees ? how long does it normally take for complete recovery ?
My injury is nothing too serious, I dont feel anything when I run, only when cycling hard.

I never had pain in my knees in other years, not even the slightest tinge.

My bike setup is fine, the same as it has been for the past 9 years.

I think your bike is too old and you need a new one!

    I must have Easter Thighs.

As I've gotten older my thighs have started to cramp more and more regularly.
Distances which I used to cover with no difficulty whatsoever, are now trials of torture.

The Wicklow 200 which was easily doable up to two years ago, is now but a distant memory because of lactic filled thighs.

    Must be old age (46).

Serves you right for spending all winter with your feet up. :D

I had shin splints lately and this time last year I had a touch of Achilles tendonitis, then had no problems for the rest of the year.

I too put it down to over doing it a tad after a slow winter, going from 2-3hrs per week Nov-Jan and upping it to 8-14hrs per week in Feb - March.

Taking a few days off and putting more rest days into a routine sorted me in a couple of weeks.
