Posting for a friend who is looking for a bit of advice.
Basically he is on his 8th year of the bank of Ireland life fund.
Paying in 140 a mth and current value of the fund is 9300,the financial adviser said he should keep paying into it for the next 3-5 years but I reckon he could do better cutting his losses right now as he is already down on it.
Anyone have experience of this fund?

This fund is probably measured against a benchmark index which is relative to the markets/investment strategy, if the fund does how does it compare to this? What makes you think the fund is performing badly?

Just because the S&P500 is doing well doesnt mean your fund is, do some investigation yourself!!!!

Not exactly the positive response I was looking for arthurdaly.
I can see he is losing and has list a lot on this fund as the idiots in bank of Ireland capital markets have sunk so much into property funds.
Was looking to see us anyone else in this unperforming fund and their kind assertations of it.

BOI cannot just sink money into an asset class. Im assuming the fund you invested is defined? Ie is the investment class irish property? or china equities? Then you can compare to a benchmark index?

Maybe this fund outperformed relative to invest strat?

If you bothered to read my post carefully I am posting on behalf of a friend,it's not me who has invested in it.
I am sorry if I caused offence to your company as you are obviously affiliated with bank of Ireland but they have sunk the majority into property and currencies from this fund changing it regularly without any positive outcome from him and the lady in the branch seems to be living in the clouds as regards advice.

No offence taken and no I am not affiliated with BOI, if you or your friend have blindly taken advice from a bank as to what fund to invest in then I dont know what advice you are looking for? BOI rep tell you to invest in BOI product, shock horror.

Fund does not return profit? Shock horror! What asset class? How does this fund compare to funds in the same sector/class?

If he has regularly contributed 140 per month over 8 years and his net position is a loss I would think there is something seriously wrong. I cant comment on that specific fund as I dont know what assets/countries etc are invested but a net loss over that timeframe suggests something is not quite right.

Should he sell? The Dow Jones returned approx 50% gain over that timeframe so I would think he needs to perform some analysis and ask some questions.
