    Hi

Just wondering if anyone out there can tell me the benifits of taking USN's IGF-1 over the standard 100% Whey which i normally take. I got a sample of IGF-1 today and yeah it tastes good and from looking on the USN website it sounds good too(has all the added Glutamine, BCAA's etc) but is there asctually much of a difference in what it will do for me besides price?

If anyone out there is taking it themselves or knows a bit more about it let me know:D

The cheapest I could find it was 48.85 euro including delivery at http://dolphinfitness.co.uk. There's 39 servings in a drum and it recommends 2-3 servings daily. That seems quite expensive and you may be better buying separate ingredients and mixing. It'll give you more control.

You'll see what my next order is going to be here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056229444&page=4

For now, I'm still working my way through the Core Bundle that I purchased very recently from myProtein. It should last me another couple of months though.

Price isnt the issue, its the actual difference(ingrediants and what they will do for me) between 100% whey and IGF-1, im just not exactly sure how one will benifit me more so then the other:confused:

The igf is a blend of different proteins, which I find better than just whey on its own. Got 5lbs of igf in argos for 32.50

Ah thats because of the Insulin-Like Growth Factor 1 protein, coupled with Somatropin BCCA's and Insulin infused creatine.

But I assume you eat other protein too, eggs, meat etc.
Say you get 50g from shakes a day, and 150g from food.

Do you really think that having an 20g from non-whey in the shake has any effct alongside the 150g of "mixed" protein

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,094 ✭✭✭SpaceCowb0y

Mellor do you reckon im better off just sticking with the 100% whey and saving myself the extra 5r? Its seems to be doing the job but was just wondering is there any major benefits to IGF-1 but besides a bit of marketing about blended proteins i cant find any evidence to see how it will help me grow in any way?

Stick with the whey, dont get sucked into the hype of "slowly digesting protein, sustained release", just eat well.

yes I occasionally eat some food wen I can catch it!

I eat 3 meals per day wit roughly 50grams protein in each, plus 3 shakes wit 50 grams in each. It's handy tats why I do it

Yeah was kinda feeling that way alright! Its been doing the job so far so i guess its a case of "why fix it if its not broken!":)

You hav no way of knowing if it makes a difference.

The fact is you are already taking in 150g of "mixed" protein from food. The IGF shake have 40g of protein in each from 6 sources.
The biggest source, whey, the nect biggest, whey again, the 3rd and 4th biggest are also milk protiens. THe actually abount of soy and egg protein is likely to be tiny. I'd say its about 2 or 3 grams of each.
So compared to the steak/chicken/tuna/eggs you have throguh out the day, it is meaningless.

Sure look at the timeline your suggesting, 10 years!
Of course your going to make gains in 10 years.

Are you saying that if you only took whey and not your other protein, that would wouldnt have made the same gains, over 10 years?

Like I said before I've noticed the difference between the two

I don't doubt that you believe there was a difference.
But you appear to think there is a difference between protein shakes and protein from food.

There's a theory that when people buy more expensive products, they eat better and train harder so as to get their moneys worth. This results in better gains and a belief that the products are superior.

No I don't think powders and food protein are different don't know how you came up wit tat, I take protein shakes for convienince and I don't by expensive protein either

So why you you think that the 5-10g of soy and egg protein in the shake has an impact over to the 150g of mixed protein from food.

    Basically you said that
150g whey + 150g [mixed protein] (caesin, animal, egg etc) is less effective than
125g whey + 175g [mixed protein] (caesin, animal, egg etc)

Not to alarm you, but you do realise you havn't a leg to stand on. Do the aminoacid profile quanites differ so much that you've gained this extra "growth" simple from a multi-time-release-protein? Simple answer is, no.

Just because you had better gains when taking IGF doesn't mean it was because of IGF. There are so many other factors

Yes there are many factors and a protein blend is one of them (not just igf)

Okay so I dont know if I'm late in letting you know what IGF-1. I study pharmacology. IGF-1 is a substance that your liver releases in response to Growth Hormone. IGF-1 has many roles one of most important is that it signals cells within the body to go into proliferation(growth). It's basically telling them hey guys time to grow. But be very wary IGF-1 shouldn't be taken regularly maybe only before or after workout. IGF-1 has shown to be the causative agent in certain cancers. So unless you want to increase your chances, I suggest you lower the amount you take.
