Poor Signal from Clermont Carn, in Stamullen

    Hi,
Im living in Stamullen, Co. Meath and have had little issues in getting reception from Clermont Carn for DTT except when at the end of last summer when weather was super, my DTT was brutal to non existant. I put that down to the trial. Yesterday again, my picture was poor to nothing and the weather is good. UK analog was also poor which was always an issue around here.

I have never had issues with analog Irish channels no matter what the weather and now am I correct in saying that this is what i have to look forward to????? Good weather no TV?

I hope im wrong and this is also part of the testing but normally my reception is showing as FULL on 2 Different TV's (philips and Sony).

Last night all seems to be back again no issues. During yesterday morning until mid afternoon, poor to nothing.

All advise and help greatly appreciated.

Could be CCI from Llanddona in Wales or Douglas, Isle of Man (presumably not Truskmore).

Do others in your locality have this problem?

I didn't think Stamullen had terrible UK analogue reception. Clermont Carn is certainly on low power at the moment, RTE have suggested something like quarter-power. In November 2012, it should work much better. What type of aerial do you have and what way is it aligned? A photo can be very helpful.

    Hi,

It was poor again for dtt earlier but ok now. Back to full strength.
Normally all my channels are ok including analog but UK channels suffer when the weather is good during the summer. IRL analog was always good.

DTT normally is full strength but now that we have a good spell its not great during the day. I dont know many others here using dtt.

Id be really dissapointed if i loose DTT when analog goes and if the weather is good. Will then have to be Freesat all the way but i for one have actually been looking forward to the dtt stuff. when it works now i love it especially rte2 upsaled HD :-)

    Thanks for all your comments

Hello, I'm up the road at number 3.
All I have at the moment is a Sony Bravia MPEG2 TV which shows good signal
strength (sound only - no picture. I need MPEG4 for that) If you want you could try plugging some DTT receiver into my aerial to see if it gives same results in good weather. I'm getting a DTT receiver soon so that could be interesting to compare signal strengths.

On a related note since Clermont Carn's Saorview signal is heavily nulled to the north does this not adversely affect some viewers who live north of the transmitter but south of the border or are they close enough to the transmitter for it to make little if any difference?

Indeed, a lot of people north of the border get good Analogue Clermont Carn but not Saorview. Some people seem to pick up Three Rock easier in NI than Clermont Carn.

Hopefully most of that area will be taken care of when Monaghan comes on; Clermont coverage is a bit hit & miss in north Monaghan anyway.

I've had a little time to look at this, and it does not look good. I'm in Stamullen too. DTT reception was very bad with clicking sounds coming and going then it went off completely. The analogue TV is being effected by the high pressure weather. I was surprised to see that DTT is also effected by this (Tropospheric ducting) http://www.highdefforum.com/local-hdtv-info-reception/113237-tropospheric-ducting-newbies.html
or known as "Co-channel TV interference" as mentioned in an earlier post.

just a quick update on this. Flick through the TV last Saturday and with the weather good, i had NO dtt from here and to my surprise i have DTT from Scotland. I had all BBC's from Scotland, All ITV's Channel 4 and a couple more but NOTHING from Saorview. My analog from the North wasnt great and analog from here was fine.

I lost them yesterday and regained only 75% signal strength to saorview. I havent been able to check today.

Under normal weather conditions, i have 100% Irish dtt signal.

    Not liking this at all.

Im based in Stamullen, pointing at Clermont Cairn. Most bizzare.

I found that very interesting,my nearest Tx is the Carn, but no signal North.good signal all the way from 3 rock or Kippure,Best signal from IOM into S.Down, but alas Freeview HD signal hardly ever there .
Would consern me that people might fork out good money for HD ,only perhaps to find it the most difficult to receive. This ,in my case only applies to UK Freeview HD,RTE is fine, with little or no fluctuations.Although its the Tx at a greater distance I guess the ERP is in my favour even over the sea.

Have there been any changes made regarding signal direction to the North east? The reason I ask is I was replacing RTE antennas at two locations Armagh city and Portadown. At both locations DTT signal strength and quality was rock solid and stable on Channel 53.

Incidentally. The Armagh Job was last Saturday and the one in Portadown was today. Both signals were unwavering on my meter and when I checked on my test HD receiver there was no break up of the kind associated with tropo.

Speaking of Clermont Carn, I'm having awful trouble picking it up this morning. Less than 30km away from the site, RTE1 is nearly perfect on the same log periodic. I rarely have any problems picking it up once I'm using an aerial outside...

Will the Monaghan tx still be an off-air relay of Clermont?

If that's the case, would they want to be putting a bit more signal in the NW direction (& soon)?
