Just wondering if like me, others out there cannot let a day go by without wondering what the latest random stuff thats been posted on Boards.ie and/or even 'After Hours' ?

Do you HAVE to log in daily just to see whats posted by the mad bunch we are?
    Are you addicted? :pac:

I must be! I've knocked up a few posts myself! I need a life! :o

It's sorta like calling into 'Yor Ma's ' for a quick cuppa tae only to find your still there 3 hrs later ...

It sometimes can take a few days to catch up with various thread topics

I check in at least once a day to see what nonsense is being discussed, when in work I tend to spend an unhealthy amount of time on AH.

eta, the last forum I was a member of was unmoderated, and it was seriously bad for my health... I've learned to love moderation :)

It keeps me somewhat in line :D

Come on Biggins you're going to have to make it 2001.

    I'm afraid I can't do that Dave.

Maybe you should concentrate on showing your family a fair level of care and attention rather than worrying about this "mad bunch" every day

Well, I'm an unemployed loser who scrounges off of the state; between my hours of drug and alcohol abuse, there's also boards abuse. So like any scrounger, I like to engage in the use of the boards for 10-20 hours per day.

And maybe you should shut up and stop making assumptions?

If I recall, there was a thread about "what'd you do if you had 15 minutes before the world ended", for the first few pages it was just the standard typical AH stuff bar Biggins being the big caring softie and saying he'd ring his family and thank them from being there and making him happy each day (paraphrased).*

So yeah, I'm sure he's ignoring his family for us folks here.

*Sorry Biggins but it was the first example I thought of, you aren't a big softie.:P

Don't know about Biggins.. but this "mad bunch" are my family..

.. they're a family of scruffy layabout assholes who I despise right down to the centre of their dark tainted souls, but they're a family nonetheless.

PS - your assumption was ridiculous and uncalled for btw!

This is me talking honestly and candidly here:
When I first began to use Boards I was the type of person who would just quickly take a look at AH and be on my way - I wouldn't even log in.

But progressively I actually became quite dependent on it. Allow me to explain.
For the past few days (about 4) I have been trying to prepare a presentation. But after I attempt/do one slide, I check Boards.

Yesterday this was the worst it has ever been - I was, hand on heart, on Boards for at least 11 hours straight. All while attempting to do the presentation.

So, it seems that my Boards use dramatically increases when I'm attempting to do a project (same story here again tonight - just home from work and have to work away it the project again).

To be honest, I'm actually quite worried about it. I know people may laugh when the word 'addiction' is thrown about, but I can honestly say I am bordering on it at this stage with regard to Boards.

    Oh well.

It can be addictive, find I take a break away from it now and again or post less. It can be a very useful site for information and news. The RSS feed is great for reading stuff I'd never normally bother on.

I don't watch much TV so AH is my version of car crash TV.

Mad Men's Don Draper : What you call love was invented by guys like me, to sell nylons.

I think you should find all threads by Biggins before you make the assumption that he doesn't care about his family!

juma banned for his insulting abusive remark to Biggins.

I used to use it a lot - like, way too much, and for someone who uses the internet a lot I don't use the phrase 'too much' often. But these days I post sparingly but read a lot. So, it's still a big part of my day, because for me boards and just, 'the internet' in general are totally entwined, really. Without it the internet would feel like a lonely place....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,811 ✭✭✭xoxyx

I love Boards and, most particularly, AH.

Some days I'll come in loads of times to see what's happening. But, sometimes I'll miss a couple of days.

What worries me is that, when I miss a few days, I'll go onto page 2 of AH to check out what I'm missing - and almost single thread is one that I've seen before.

    I think I've reached saturation.

Ha ha ha ha. Saturation. :P:o

A lot of the posters here have become friends. I log in sometimes just to make sure everything is fine with them, etc. I can tell that sometimes by their moods, their posts and their replies to others.
Its something you pick up on after a while.

Of course like waking down a main street finding something bad occasionally stepped on, there's going to be random posts that one might not like (NOT a go at Juma) but can't avoid. Like everything thing else in ones life, boards has become a place where a person can escape for a while, catch up on things missed, find out info and often gain a lot of help in many areas.

I'm glad boards.ie exists. In a lot of ways its actually helped to improve things for my personal family.

I've been checking AH before logging into bookface the last few weeks which is a welcomed change :o

Nowadays I don't watch tv or use the toilet (lets be honest) without the laptop by my side and i'll always have a look in. I check it most days alright.
I've been here for years but only made an account on my birthday last year, and I think I'll use it for a full year, and then retire my account.
Yea congrats on the 20,000 too. I hope to reach 10,000 during my run.

Harsh! Just because boards.ie is apart of his life doesnt mean his family isn't, you could say the same thing about avid football fan and there's plenty of them out there but I guarantee they still have care and attention for their family.
