are vaccines covered with GP card?

I have to get some vaccinations, the hep b/c and the varicella (chicken pox) vaccine.
Does anyone know what way these work with a GP card? Do I have to pay for the vaccine itself or what?

No. Nothing is covered apart from the Gp's fee.

It might vary, but my doctor said €350 for hep B, full course. (I have a medical card.) Couldn't afford it. Then I heard that the free std clinics will do some vaccinations for free, including hepatitis. Good luck!

You can claim back anything over €120 ?? under the Drug Refund Scheme.Make sure you get all your bills in the one calender month.

Called my GP €35 for one each shot of hep b vaccine, 3 shots needed in total.

It is quite astounding by all accounts (and I have heard this from numerous GPs) the number of people quite affronted by the fact that their medical card does not cover them / entitle them to free vaccinations for their holiday trip to south east asia and on to Oz etc... go figure...

Not having a go at the OP - just a general attitude. The base cost of the actual vaccination solution is the costly bit. A lot of GPs will actually administer it for free - if you buy it. They are good that way.

I agree with this to be honest. But my vaccines are not for holidays, they are becuase I am starting a college course that requires them because I will be going on to work in the health service.
To be honest I just thought because I am being vaccinated purely to stop me from infecting patients with such diseases, that the college or HSE would provide them for free.
I know if it was a choice I could live without being vaccinated!

That's a rant for somewhere else though and I don't really mind paying to be honest, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't paying for something that I didn't have to pay for!
