Even though my passport is not yet expired(jul11) I still have to get a new one because entry into thailand require you have 6 months left before it expires, however I have also heard that your new passport needs to be 6 monthS old before you can go to thailand also, is this true?

I think there are issues about having a valid passport for 6 mts after but not sure about before hand.

A quick search shows many people have had issues but it seems to be up to the imigration people on the day.

The US embasy in Dublin advise of such.

    rules like you mention.

To cover yourself make your plans known to the embassy of the country before hand.

Not quite sure how the other posters back up their No's

The first one is true and is true for a significant amount of countries these days.
I very much doubt your passport has to be 6 months old though that seems ridiculous and it doesnt mention it here

Neither is true. You can travel with any passport, anywhere untill the expiray date so long as your return flight is before it expires.

    Wrong.

In this paricular case, your passport must be valid for 6 months from the date you enter Thailand.

It's also a requirement in a number of other countries, especially in Asia.
