Looking to change my car. I've been given trade in values of between €3,000 to €4,000 for mine. I'm willing to lob €9,500 cash on top of that. so total budget around €12,000 - €14,000. If I have to I'll sell mine privately.

    Want :-

    - 2006 plus
    - low mileage (40k miles or less)
    - 4 door
    - 1.8 or 2 litre - not keen on anything more powerful.
    - decent (leather) interior
    - nice drive
    - petrol
    - manual

    I do 6,000 miles a year or less, 75% urban, 25% motorway/dual carriageway.

Would like to get something that will hold value decently for a couple of years, but also age nicely and be a nice place to be in - I may keep it a long while.

    What would you get ?

(edit : think I'm describing a 3 series would like to hear alternatives)

Nicest specced Accord you can find if you are intent on spending that much.

hahah :D grease me up in wimp oil and feed me to the scaredy cat

actually I wouldn't particularly mind going for something with more grunt but it wouldn't find favour with the eh other person who will be driving the car.

Well, its a budget as opposed to a target - if I get a decent motor and have change I'll be delighted - thanks for the suggestion.

Yup. That's exactly what I was thinking when I saw this thread first...thought I had posted on it too...i must be getting old!

For such low mileage, and wanting something fun/nice to drive i'd go with the Gti tbh.

Cheers all - I like the Skoda a lot and hadn't known about it before, Golf GTI also one I was considering

In other news...a 2008 Volvo S40 (1.8 SE) is being pushed on me (bloody motor tax emissions bands)...I have no clue what they are like to drive - maybe I am wrong here but I don't seem to recall anyone promoting them for the drive. I'm thinking eh sort of the opposite of the skoda or golf.

Previous to him...that guy is on vagdrivers (probably here too) and that car is really a credit to him. Probably the best specced one you could find in the country. I would give that car serious consideration if I was in your shoes, although the GTi looks a lot nicer.

If you read the ad it says it's optional with the car. It's fitted in the interior photos and presumably the original will be in its place.

    EDIT - vagdriver advert:

    http://vagdrivers.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=60926

Also includes a thread on the specific car.

Honda Accord 2l petrol type S - 155bhp 2006+I own one of these, i'm drove almost 60k kms in just over 2 years, and it never gave me any single problem. Honda Accord 2l petrol type R - 220bhp ( 2005 year) Skoda Octavia 2l vrs - 200bhp 2006+if you won't rev from each stop lights, it won't use much more petrol than any other car.
