The Sims 3: Generations

So EA didn't listen to community regardings Pets, but they've come up with Generations instead. Sounds interesting:
So far we've had three expansion packs for The Sims 3. What new features will the fourth expansion introduce?

    screenshot_251539_thumb300.jpg
With The Sims 3 Generations, we've added tons of new age specific content that will not only allow players to create more interesting Sims, but it will allow players to tell deeper, richer, and more complete stories with their Sims and their families. From a child's imagination, to a rebellious teen's angst, to an adult's Mid-Life Crises, Generations is packed with loads of new life moments that your Sims shouldn't be without!

The expansion takes you through the different periods of a Sim's life, how is each period differentiated from the next?

The great thing about The Sims 3 is that you as a player get to tell the story, so it's really up to you how you want to differentiate your Sims' years. With that being said, we geared some of our new features to represent a few specific themes for each life phase.

For Children, it's all about imagination and make believe. For Teens, it's about those moody, rebelious years you face as you grow up. As a Young Adult and Adult, we have a bunch of new features and content that focus on your Sims' relationships with others; from getting married to having children of their own. Elders get to enjoy their time reminiscing about the golden years and the joys of watching their grandchildren grow up.

For the people out there who enjoy trapping Sims in rooms without doors and introducing hazards, what new mischief making opportunities does the expansion provide?

Child and Teen Sims can take advantage of the brand new Pranks feature. Complete with booby traps, pranks you can play on your neighbors, and some Stink Juice, players will have the opportunity to cause more mischief than ever before! Just don't get caught or else your Sim might end up grounded!

How important is the community to The Sims generally?

It's extremely important to The Sims 3 team and the entire Sims Studio in general. We invest a great amount of time listening to suggestions on The Sims 3 Forums, holding Town Hall style meetings, and even inviting community members to our Studio for exclusive demos and hands on events. We love hearing from the Sims community and doing our best to deliver what they're looking for in Sims games!

    screenshot_251538_thumb300.jpg
Do you have any plans to make use of social networks such as Twitter and Facebook for The Sims 3 or its expansions?

In The Sýms 3 Generations, Sims can now track Memories of significant life moments in their Scrapbook, and for the first time ever in The Sims, players can upload and share their Sims' memories on Facebook and TheSims3.com! Your Sim's first kiss? First WooHoo? It can all be uploaded and shared online with a screenshot and custom description of your Sim's memory. You can even create you own memories in the game and share them as well!

Will any new content be added to the Sims Store to coincide with the new expansion pack?

I can't speak specifically about any future plans for The Sims 3 Store, but we always try to create content that compliments and supports the features we include in Expansion Packs.

When planning a new expansion how much input do you take from your fanbase?

A lot! We spend a great deal of time in the Sims 3 Forums researching what our players like, what they don't, and what they want to see in the future.

Where does the team draw its inspiration from when coming up with ideas and scenarios?

The Sims 3 development team is a very diverse group of people and we draw a lot of inspiration from the different life experiences we've all had. However, I do have to say that Sims really do have a life of their own, and a lot of the funny moments come from the decisions they make and the things they do. We're constantly laughing as we make a game when we see a Sim do something hilarious that we never thought they could do!

    screenshot_251547_thumb300.jpg
The Sims 3 is available on consoles as well as PC. Do you have any plans to allow these players to enjoy the content from any of the post-release Sims 3 expansions?

There are no plans for this at this time and right now we're focused on making a great experience with The Sims 3 Generations for PC/Mac players.

Thoughts? I'm not horribly excited about this as I was with Medieval, still loving that.

Pets or Seasons would have been my personal choice for the next expansion pack. This seems a little...lazy? It's not like they're giving us that much more. These new features could have easily fit in with a Pets/Seasons expansion.

Yeah it does seem a bit lazy.... I'm just praying that they'll eventually release an expansion pack like Makin' Magic from The Sims (1). How amazing would that be....

    Now I'm sad......

It looks good! But yeah pets would have been a little more exciting

I'll probably buy this purely for the bunk beds, it's something i've wanted for a long time.

I also heard that childcare will be a new profession but I could be wrong cause I can't find anything to confirm it.

I love university! And the driving lessons bit sounds cool. I wonder how dating will work?

I'd say it might be like when you're trying to chat to a celebrity. You'll probably have to get enough points on a date for it to be a 'good' date.

Pre-ordered it this morning. Out 31st May folks! Looking forward to it. Sims games have gathered a bit of dust on my shelf

Two weeks to go...it's a bit frustrating. I'm holding off doing any major gameplay because I want to wait for the new game. I presume we're getting a new town?

I hope so! Some more fine details have been released:

    Bachelor and Bachelorette Parties

Is there a better way to ring in the joys of young adulthood than with an out of control bachelor party?
    • After successfully proposing marriage (or being proposed to), a Sim is now eligible to throw a Bachelor or Bachelorette Party.
    • After selecting to throw a party via telephone, Engaged Sims can select the Bachelor/ette party type, as well as the Dress to Impress dress code! A Sim can only throw one Bachelor/ette party per engagement, so make sure to enjoy it!
    • Bachelor/ette parties can be held at your home lot, community lots in the neighborhood, or even out at Bars and Clubs if you have The Sims 3 Late Night installed!
    • Once the party begins, your Sim will change into his or her crazy Bachelor/ette outfit and he or she will have a variety of new interactions with fellow party goers!
    • Not only will your Sim be able to spray other Sims with Fizzy Nectar, but they can ask Sims to give a special speech about the upcoming wedding. Only Sims with a strong relationship will accept the honor, so make sure to invite your Sim’s good friends to the party!
    • Sometimes partygoers may invite a “special guest” or two to come and provide entertainment at the party. Party Dancers! If the party is fun, they may even stick around after their performance is over… Beware though, any inappropriate activity will surely be noticed!
    6054_fullsize.jpg

    Romantic Reputations

Neighbors and Sims around the community will take notice of any public displays of affection!
    • With The Sims 3 Generations, Sims around the neighborhood will take notice of any dates, romantic socials, or displays of affection performed in a public setting.
    • Depending on a variety of different factors like how many times your Sim has been seen with this Sim, how many times your Sim has been seen with other Sims, or even if your Sim has been caught cheating before, your Sim will develop a Romantic Reputation that will affect the future of their love life.
    • Sims who are seen being Romantic with only a single partner will likely be given the “Faithful” reputation or even the “Eternally Faithfull” reputation for those in a long term monogamous relationship.
    • Sims who have been witnessed being romantic with many different Sims simultaneously, or perhaps have even been caught cheating before, may develop the “Cheater” or “Player” reputations depending on the extent of their transgressions. Finding true love in the future will not be easy!
    • Sims who have been in many relationships throughout their lives could develop the “Casanova” or “Don Juan” reputations. WooHoo with one of these Sims will leave you with the much sought after “Incredible Time!” moodlet.
    • You can use the brand new Scrapbook to see your Sim’s romantic stats like their reputation, how many romances they’ve had, or even the number of times they’ve cheated on other Sims!
    • Sims also have several brand new Romantic interactions that allow them to declare their love for another Sim, accuse a Sim of cheating on them, or even tell a friend that their romantic partner has been cheating on them!
    • Reputations are hard earned, so if your Sim has a reputation he or she likes, take care not to do anything to mess it up!
    Weddings and Marriage

Improvements to Weddings and post-wedding life lets Sims enjoy the excitement of post-marital bliss!
    • With the brand new Wedding Arch object, Sims now have more control over their wedding ceremonies. By placing it on a lot through Buy Mode, Sims will know to congregate around it for the ceremony.
    • When it’s time for the ceremony to begin, you can select “Get Married” on the arch and Sims will know it’s time to start! The Bride and Groom will then head to the arch to say their vows!
    • At the end of the ceremony, if a Wedding Cake is placed on the lot, the newlyweds will immediately proceed from the ceremony to the cake cutting! Now it’s time to party!
    • After the big day is complete, newlyweds will receive the powerful “Just Married” moodlet! Among other things, Sims will receive the wish to WooHoo with their spouse more often, as well has perform the brand new “Be Frisky” interaction!
    • If you have The Sims 3 World Adventures installed, the newlyweds will wish to travel abroad!
    • Newlyweds will also receive wedding gifts in the mail! Once received, you can click on your Sims’ mailbox and select to write Thank You Cards for the gifts they’ve been given. Family and friends are always happy to hear their gifts have been well received!
Day Care and the Nurturing Trait

Adult Sims can now earn money from home by joining the brand new Day Care Profession!
    • Sims can use the Newspaper or a Computer to sign up for the Day Care Profession.
    • Once signed up, work will begin on the next available workday and neighbors will begin dropping their children off at your house in the morning.
    • To succeed in the Day Care profession, you’ll need to make sure the children in your care are the happiest that they can be throughout the day. Whether it’s comforting a crying baby, feeding a hungry toddler, or handling various Day Care emergencies, the happier the child, the better the work performance for your Sim!
    • At the end of the day, parent’s will come to collect their children, but don’t plan anything for immediately after work! Parent’s aren’t always on time…
    • Depending on their child’s mood, parent’s will often tip you extra for a job well done!
    • On the other hand, Sims who don’t meet the requirements of their job will be disciplined by the local Social Worker, and may even have their Day Care license suspended! If this occurs, your Sim will need to attend a Penalty Class at City Hall to get their license back.
    • Sims with the brand new Nurturing Trait will be naturals in the Day Care profession! They’ll not only build a relationship faster with Children, but kids will be happy to listen to requests like to do their homework. Sims with the “Super Nanny” Lifetime Reward will be unstoppable!
    Midlife Crisis

Depending on their life experiences, some Sims may encounter the brand new Midlife Crisis when aging up to an adult!
    • A variety of different factors, like whether a Sim got married young or has low skills, will all factor into the possibility of whether or not your Sim has a Midlife Crisis when entering the Adult life phase.
    • If your Sim does encounter the Midlife Crisis, they’ll receive the “Having a Midlife Crisis” moodlet which will begin to affect them in several different ways.
    • In the beginning, Sims will start examining their faces for wrinkles and even worrying about their weight in the mirror!
    • Soon, Sims will start receiving special Midlife Crises Wishes to make changes in their lives. They’ll wish to do things like change or dye their hair, remodel their house, or even get a divorce or quit their job!
    • Sims who own an expensive car or motorcycle can go for a spin to ease the crisis and receive the “Feeling Alive!” moodlet!
    • Depending on how many Midlife Crisis Wishes your Sim is able to fulfill during the crisis, your Sim will move on into their Adult years with one of a few powerful moodlets ranging from “Barely Fulfilled” to “Supremely Fulfilled.”
    • Sims who don’t have the time to deal with a Midlife Crisis can’t opt for Therapy at the local hospital! Beware, it will be expensive!
    6053_fullsize.jpg

    Body Hair

Hair from a Sim’s shoulders, all the way down to their feet!
    • Many different sets and styles of Body Hair can be applied to Young Adult, Adult, and Elder male Sims in Create a Sim.
    • Different styles can be applied including upper Back hair, lower back hair, chest hair, stomach hair, arm hair, leg hair, and even feet hair!
    • Sims who may have second thoughts about their new hairy bodies can head down to their local Day Spa for a body wax treatment!
    Video Camera

The brand new Video Camera objects can be used to record –and playback- experiences from throughout a Sim’s life.
    • Available in Buy Mode, these objects can be purchased and placed on a Sim’s lot.
    • Once placed, a Sim can pick up the object and place it in their inventory, or directly begin shooting footage!
    • After selecting to Record Footage, the Sim will pick up the camera and take you into first person movie mode. Once in this mode, you can move around in the first person view and click the “C” button on your keyboard to begin capturing footage. Pressing “C” again will end the capture.
    • After footage has been recorded, you can click on the newly created Data Discs in the Sim’s inventory, or directly on many of the in-game Televisions, and select to “Watch Home Movies.” From there, your Sim will go and watch the footage you just shot on their in-game television!

lol at mid-life crisis. Like the idea of the Video camera stuff. Nice little feature.

I haven't played Sims 3 in quite a while but after reading the list of stuff that's in Generations, I had to get stuck into it again last night. It's just amazing how much of a time sink it is. I thought I'd give it a quick 30 minutes with a new character to prep them for the add on, but spent 3 hours solving mysteries.

There's a comedy event upstairs in the Ha'Penny Inn in Dublin tonight sponsored by The Sims 3. Last night they had free copies of the game to give out so I presume it'll be the same tonight.

It's called So You Think You're Funny. Starts about 9 or 9.30.

I'm not sure what platform it's for or anything but it might be work checking out for all you Sims fans.

Oh yeah and it's only 7 euro in and you're in for a great night's comedy too.

Customisable life stage age lengths? Hell bloody yes! I was always annoyed that it was a jump from 190 days to 960 days, now I can have a nice middle ground somewhere around 380 :D

yeah same here and I didnt like how the childrens life span was only 6 days, so i'm very happy with this and looking forward to Friday.

so I got my hard copy from game stop on Sunday, opened the box, there was no booklet :( I was nearly crying.

Anyway, after installing the new update and the expansion pack, I got playing. Overall i like it.
the new childrens play toys are good.
I have got one sim to do the childcare profession but as of yet no children have been dropped off
I like that you can sign children up to after school activites and send them to boarding school.
so far with all the pranks I pulled as a teen I was caught (is this real life:D)

    what do you all think?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,228 ✭✭✭honerbright

One thing I really love is when you send your teen to the prom they come home with a prom photo and when you put it up on the wall you can zoom in and it looks like a professionally taken prom photo. So cute.

Was playing this the other day and the 'parents' got a free holiday so off they went. The Dad is a private investigator and his LTW was the one to match his job, solve 35 cases. When they came back from their holiday I checked to see how far along he was with this and it said 0.

Happened again when they got a second 'free holiday'. Not impressed, had to change his LTW. :(

Yeah LTW is life time wish, sorry, probably should have spelt it out instead of assuming people know what it is.

It's pretty good. Such a relief they've extended their aging sliders. The memory feature is pretty cool, really adds another layer of depth to your characters. Haven't got the video camera yet.

I'm taking it slow and easy! I've read on lots of forums that people are bored already, but it's because they just played all of the new features all at once. I'm going to play as normal and experience things as they come along.

I do love the age slider though. And the body hair for men does make it a little more realistic :D The dates are cute too, staring at the stars and giving your lady some pretty flowers.

Well that sucks. That means there's less content in the Generations pack than there should've been.

I remember when Ambitions was released and I updated my game before installing the EP, I was able to get tattoos at the health spa so I think they do add some things with the updates instead of the expansion pack.

On a seperate note , has anyone been able to make their imaginary friend come to life? My sim has been playing with him a lot and no sign of him becoming real!

I didn't have the option to make mine real until my kid was a teenager. Then there was an option that was called "Offer to make real" but it was faded out. Turns out you need to make a potion on the new science lab table thing. Once you make the potion you can make the toy real.
