Right my car's NCT tag says 5/11.
Does that mean my NCT expires at the end of this month or at the end of the next month??

Also if I go for the NCT test in the next couple of weeks and my cars fails the test, can I still drive it around till I fix the car for a retest??

Your currant NCT expires at the end of May 2011. Yes you can drive around until you get it fixed I think.

It expires on the date on the disc, there is an actual date in May that it is valid until. NCT is not like motor tax.

Regarding if it fails, the fail report will be marked either repair and return for retest or they will note on it that the car is not roadworthy, so it depends on what it fails on.

The NCT expires on the corresponding date the car was registered.

Regarding still being able to drive the car, I would imagine that depends if the old NCT is still in date or not.

    Cheers.

So if my NCT expires sometime in mid may and I get the test next week and the car fails it, I can still drive the car around till mid may when my NCT expires right?

The car does drift to the right a little and I don't think its a wheel alignment issue anymore as I got the wheels aligned but its still does that. Also you've got to have the steering wheel turned slightly to the left to keep the car going in a straight line.

I think its the rest of the damage done to the car when I hit the kerb quite hard like sometime last year. The rear wheel hub is slightly bent I think.

Doesn't make any difference as long as you keep it under 120kmph. Above that it starts to shake/wobble and start feel a little unsteady. Keep it below 120kmph and its very steady.

Would that make my car not roadworthy??

Unlikely really which is frightening but there you go. I'd put money on them not marking it as unroadworthy.

I just wanna keep it till this summer or maybe next and then I can sell it/scrap it and buy something nicer...

Need to put up with it for just one more year... Currently it looks like it can do it no problem as long as it gets through the NCT.

I know the car doesn't give you a lot of confidence when you get into it to drive it, especially when blasting down motorways. But then, it atleast keeps your senses awake always on a check for any unusual noises or vibrations from the car. So far it hasn't killed me! :)

I just had my NCT and failed on 2 tyres (thread depth) and the tinted windows on the front.
The report i got back said that i have 1 month to fix it, so test was on 22/03, so i have until 22/04 to fix it.
my nct displays til the end of March but i have that form to confirm.

and when it kills you will you replace it then or get it fixed..... you are driving a death trap your tyre could be damaged on the inside causing the wobble/vibration and could burst at any time killing you your passengers and some other innocent driver you are being very silly to say the least

I'd say your car will fail on sideslip.

Its running on 4 new tyres. I'm sure the wobble is from the rear axle which got damaged when I hit the curb last year. Like the car is very smooth below 100kmph. Its only over 120kmph that the wobble becomes noticable. But I don't drive it that fast anyway. I keep it below 100kmph most of the time.

Did you get a new wheel that time, I reckon the wobble is either balancing or a buckled wheel :)
