Just a heads up for anyone driving 1.8 - 6.0 TFSI/FSI/MPI VW engine from 2005-2007 ish, the vast majority are eligible for a free coil pack change. It's a "workshop action" as opposed to a recall so they will notify you at routine services but will not contact the customers. May be useful to people who don't go down the main dealer route for servicing.

Just dropped in my 2006 GTI there for 4 new ones. No problems with it but no harm in getting free ones if they are going.

Thanks for the heads up. I've actually replaced a few of these for customers and they had to fork out the cash. Will be handy to know.

And the Audi A8 has the 6.0 W12 engine too.
As for 6.0 Golf, not quite released but kinda exists:

    vw_golf_gti_w12_641_official.jpgcar_photo_218305_7.jpg
The car features a 6.00L W12 bi-turbo engine from the Bentley Continental GT delivering 650 PS (478 kW; 641 hp), 720 N·m (531 lb·ft) of torque, 0-100 km/h (62.1 mph) in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 202 mph (325 km/h).[17] The W12 differs from the standard GTI in several ways. It is 70 mm (2.76 in) lower and 160 mm (6.30 in) wider, the rear seats have been removed to accommodate the mid-engine design, and the roof is made from carbon-fibre.

I have a 05 gti 2.0T FSI Nothern Ireland import, I presume that will be eligible? Also as asked above, would plugs be included?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,401 ✭✭✭Nonoperational

Should be eligable I'd imagine as it's going on in the UK too. Plugs not included but 4 new VW ones are only around €30. I had mine done recently so I didn't get new ones.

Just checked my part numbers on etka versus those listed on vagdrivers.net and mine are not affected it seems. Oh well, would have liked 4 no coil packs. I guess the fact that i have not needed any replaced in 3 years suggests that they are pretty reliable ones.
Is it true that older spark plugs put an additional strain on the coil packs?

Just in case you got it backwards, those parts mentioned on vagdrivers are the ones that DO NOT need replacemet. All other coils do! So only if your coils are the ones listed on vagdrivers are you ok.
