    Hi

Problem relates to 1999 citroen xsara 1.4 petrol, the heater blower only works on setting 4(highest). I am thinking the problem is with the heater resistor pack I would appreciate if anybody could tell me where exactly its located & if posssible a ball park figure on how much a replacement one is.

    Thanks in advance

Should be located behind the glove box near the blower motor. Access from underneath the glovebox in the passenger footwell. You should be able to see the wires going in the rheostat resistor pack. Check the pollen filter if there is one there too. No idea on price - you might be able to pick one up in a scrap yard.

Yep - sounds like the resistor pack is kaput. You'll probably need to take down the glove box to get at it. Ring a few dealers to get a price - have your chassis number handy to speed up the process.

Many thanks guys & thanks for the photo Armadillo.
Would i be right in thinking if the resistor pack is a match that i should get one from a younger model citreon (if getting from scrap yard) as it may last a bit longer ?

The newer the better but old ones might last months or years. Some Makes and Models share the same part. Take out your own and see if there is a part number and\or google it.

There is usually a reason behind the failure of the resistor, whether its a motor pulling too much current or a blocked pollen filter.
Usually the thermal fuse blows on the resistor and these can be bought from Rs or maplin (a lot cheaper than a resistor).

    Hi Crosshair1,
is the thermal fuse held in by a fuse holder or soldered in position & does it resemble a regular fuse.

Its about 4mm dia. and 12mm long and is welded to the terminals, when repalcing you only want to cut out the cylindrical section and solder the new one to the legs of the old.
Post a pic and I'll try to find a part no.

Is this the resistor pack, it is inserted into the pollen filter housing with a push & twist action. You where on the mark guys the pollen filter was completely choked (probably the original).

Along with the three resistor coils in the cage the little cylinder is the thermal fuse.
This will be open circuit, chect with multimeter.
    Ra23a is maplins part no
