Just had an email telling me there is a change of venue for this event, thought I'd pass on the heads up.

I did it last year, can recommend it as a fantastic route, good food at the end and a bumper goodie bag - I still use the t-shirt. Well organised and marshalled.

    Details are on - http://www.southeastroadclub.com/

There were about 200 there last year, the 120k spin is excellent training for the Wicklow 200 or summer sportives - It goes over Augihavannagh and Glenmalure (The Shay Elliot) so nice tester for the legs. A good sunday morning outing to have a decent excuse to lie on the couch all afternoon watching Paris-Roubaix unfold letting the legs recover.....

Thanks for that. Might only do the short route - some major climbs on the longer one. Bit early in the year for them.

Is this open to anyone, just turn up and sign on?

Hope to drive down from Dublin early Sunday and give this a shot, I assume its a mass start rollout until we get to the hills and then the big boys are gone!

Looks good. I'm heading down. Does anybody know if the pace is very fast or what's the story. And is it ok to head down by yourself and just tag along

Yeah cumon on down the more the merrier , of course there will be faster and slower groups on the day but you generally drift in and out of various groups until you find a bunch riding a pace you are comfortable with

Best to go at your own pace unless you are keen to get home quick. It's not to be confused with a race so plodding along is just perfect.:D

Best to go at your own pace. It's a long way & unless you are hoping to get home quick there is no point in killing yourself in the first couple of miles. Let the wanna be racers go for it or those in training for the racing season. :D

What clothing is recommended for tomorrow

    satin-halter-dress.jpg

Something like that should be fine, wear it with red overshoes though.

Seriously, if it's anything like today a pair of armwarmers just in case and a gillet would be more than enough.

Not sure about the dress, not very aero.

Try something like this, get the whole team involved!!

Not sure about the runners though, best with cycling shoes!

Looked like a great event. Brilliant day for it. I'll post a link with photos I took near or at Aughavanagh once they get loaded.

    Worst than Shay Elliot?

To be honest I thought it was worse. Hadn't climbed it before so didn't really know where it was ending. Maybe the not knowing is worse than knowing. Prob doesn't make sense as am quite in coherent at the minute

Even nuns seem to enjoy cycling:

In the 10months since I started cycling I have never ventured beyond the lumpy-pancake-like terrain that is the happy hunting ground of my club. My cycling mentor (let's label him 'SuperDomestique') has lectured me on the different types of cyclists.... sprinters, climbers, Freds, etc., he never actually categorises me, perhaps I am beyond definition, anyhow, in pursuit of a desirable tag I decided the time had come to try some proper hills....

This morning, in glorious sunshine, and in the splendid company of the blonde faction of MAWS, some of my clubmates, and 80 or so others, I set off on 'The 3Peaks Challenge'!

Okay, so don't fret, I won't dissect each ascent, we're not exactly talking Pyrenees here,...... suffice it to say that to my delight, the climbing felt really good, enjoyable even. And the descents.... the descents were awesome (67.9kmph max.)!

The few here who know me will agree that my body shape is not that of a climber. I have heard (*plants tounge firmly in cheek*) that Dita Von Teese has been known to scale the slopes of an over-sized champagne glass with enough speed and dexterity to titillate Chris Bonnington. Not, admittedly on a bike.

With obvious and due regard to another Boardsie whom I have recently had the pleasure of meeting........ GodILoveTheHills!!!!

    Worst than Shay Elliot?
Slieve Mann is a lot longer- it goes about 100m higher. Shay Elliot is steep from the Slieve Mann side but a lot easier the Laragh side. I'd say overall Slieve Mann is the hardest climb in Wicklow, worst from the Shay Elliot side.
