We've all heard rumours like that before - so, believe it when I see it.

If UPC were proactive instead of reactive, they would have added BBC 1 HD and UTV HD at launch.

MGM HD seems like a waste of good bandwidth. If the content is rubbish in SD it’s not going to be much better in HD.

Im only passing on what my friend told me.. An Australian lady is now in charge of upc in Ireland, she only took over last week, hopefully she starts sorting things out in upc.. MGM HD carries different films than MGM SD, the films MGM HD show are much better..

BBC1 HD is a simulcast of BBC1 but in HD. BBC HD shows programs from BBC2, 3 and 4 in HD.

Would love BBC1 HD as that would be brilliant to have more sports in HD...

F1 in particular, set Setanta HD to record for the last race and ended up with Top Gear coming on!

a friend of mine is high up in upc, told me both stations are launching here next week, with more stations to follow soon.. apparantly upc got a shock with the customers reaction to losing the itv stations..

MGM HD is due since October/November, BBC 1 HD since the day it launched.

Problem is neither solves UPCs' issues - HD is a minority service (and not available in many areas) and its the majority of viewers who have lost 6 channels and had a price increase on the basic packages that are fuming with UPC.

Customers reaction has been hostile to put it mildly - expect Sky to take full advantage of this very soon.

And 'soon' not in the UPC meaning of the word !

I believe you that you have been told this by somebody high up in UPC.

The question is do I believe them UPC keep on messing up the TV service.

Ok Bravo Channel one and Sky Real Lives Sky closed all these channels not UPCs fault.

ITV was stepping on TV3s toes again not UPC fault.

UPC not getting the finger out and replacing these channels is their fault.

I have defended UPC in the past however the channel selection does look on the bare side right now.

MGM HD has been coming soon for the last six months or so.

There is an audio problem on comedy plus one for God sake fix it UPC.

That's Comedy Central's problem, not UPC. There's a strange audio warble on Sky as well and UPC source Comedy Central from the sky platform as far as I know.

well here's more, they have no confirmed new channels yet, i was also told that they have had very few cancellations in relation to losing the itv channels recently which they are surprised at, also there are new packages to be announced on the 4th of may which is obviously when they will announce the new channel line up

May 4th - Where did you here that ? (are you by any chance referring to May 4th 2010 when UPC rebranded ?)

Regarding channels not replaced - Sky Real Lives is another channel that has ceased - as others have said the line up is looking very bare these days...

By the way UPC's reply to customers re price and the loss of the ITV's "we cannot offer a decrease in price as issue was out of our hands unfortunately"
In any other business if you cut the service you provide you also have to cut your price ! nice additional profit UPC are making as they no longer have to pay for the ITV's.

On the original issue of MGM HD being added I would not get overly excited. The movies are generally quite old and most are actually just upscaled and not really proper HD. There's a lot of 70's and 80's stuff. Here is this evening's schedule. Pretty limp for a HD channel.

    5:15 pm Absolution (1988)
    6:55 pm Network (1976)
9:00 pm Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1978)
11:00 pm The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai (1984)

some people dont mind watching "old" films

the problem is that most of the films on the mgm channel are crap

Open your mind, they're two of the best films of all time.

And in danger of dragging this way off topic, why wouldn't they be in HD? Once there's a decent enough master I understand it's relatively straightforward to downgrade from film to hd.

There's also a big difference between the MGM channel I used to have with UPC that was mainly straight to video dross, and the MGM HD channel I have with Sky.

I really like the Body Snatchers but it looks really dated, the colours are faded and unless its remastered there's not much benefit from having it in HD although maybe I would change my mind if I saw it on HD. The main point is that the movies are generally ancient.
