I can't wait for this. Loved it last year and it'll be one of my big target races this year. Highly recommend it!

The hosting Club, Dunshaughlin AC have to set up the official water station away from the Dunshaughlin/Ratoath Road as they have to open that road fairly soon after the runners have passed through. This is why the water station is past the 5K mark. The residents along the route do provide impromptu water stations outside their own houses. This adds to the community atmosphere of the race.

If you're looking for a pb course, this is it. Knocked 3 minutes off my 10k last year and will be back to knock a bit more all going well.

Fast course, well run race by the locals, good support and good weather (hopefully).

Absolutley. 10mile race maybe, but definitely not necessary during a 10k.
25th June.........my birthday. Have to be PB so.

I took a cup of water during the race last year. Poured it down the back of my neck. Fantastic wake-up call. Superb race. Looking forward to it already.

The official one is at about 6Km. There are others, their location depends on which local residents turn out on the night!!

I'd agree, albeit with limited experience of ROI 10ks. Though I was taken down a peg in 2008. I thought I was running well, blazing along, when a woman supporting at the roadside said to another

'Jaysus there can't be many more, are there?'
The reply was 'God yes, they're still coming.'

So much for thinking I was Geb #2.

It is a smashing race with a great finish and athmosphere. My only thing with the race is from miles 4 to 5 (I think) there is a bit of an uphill and if you havn't included it in your pacing, forget about it. Really is a great race though and overall still a good fair course.

The 32nd Michael Manning Memorial Dunshaughlin 10km Road Race & Fun Run Challenge takes place on Saturday 25th June next at 7.30pm. Athletes from the four corners of Ireland are marking their diaries to be part of Irelands oldest 10km road race and with many of Irelands elite road racers likely to be putting their toe on the start line, this years race is shaping up to become one of the best races yet - not only is the Michael Manning Dunshaughlin 10k a great race to run, it is also a great race to remember!
Over the past 32 years, this race has become known throughout the country as a ‘classic’ and with many runners making PB’s over the exactly measured course it is a ‘must run’ for many runners. With t-shirts for the first 500 entries and chip timing for everyone, early registration is now open and is strongly recommended. Online entry will again be just €12 and €15 on the day. Teams (four for men and three for women) will need to declare at registration on race day. A new course record bonus of €100 is offered for breaking the current record of 29mins 21secs for men and 34mins 40secs for women.
Always well attended and renowned for being a friendly but competitive race with an infamous after race supper, a training schedule is available on facebook for beginners or anyone who might want a little help to get them ready for the day.

Was supposed to have been doing it, but I've run a grand total of less than 4km in June so far due to being sick so racing a 10k next weekend would not be smart. :pac:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,307 ✭✭✭T runner

Must enter now...last years results indicate a very fast first half and a relatively very slow second. Suprising that its a fastish course considering this. I ran last year but it seems vague now. Second half seems to have a couple of steep hills but hard to expalin the difference in times.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,307 ✭✭✭T runner

Ok, ave difference between 1st 5k and second was 42 secs last year for top 50 but only 22 secs in 2009 for top 50. Wind related i guess and faster times in 2009 overall.

Anyone know about the situation in the ladies?

Either way there won't be a sniff of warm water for me by the time I make it there but if it's a warm enough night I might brave it

Wind assisted first half last year, and into the wind for second half so taht explains 42 secs ave difference times between these halfs for the first 50.

On a calm day in 2009 the ave difference was 22 (due to a hill at 7k and second half fatigue) so this is what to expect.

There seems to be a bus every 15 minutes from Busaras. takes about 40 minutes to Dunshaughlin.

Going back, I am sure there will be a few of us to share a taxi.

That's the way I did it and I was able to have a few beers in Dunshaughlin town afterwards. It's a bit of a step to/from race HQ though - allow about 15 minutes especially if registering on the evening.

Looking at the results 2 years ago there seemed to be a nice cluster finishing just the right side of 33 mins so hopefully with a good turnout youll have a determined sub 33 group to tuck into and work with.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,800 ✭✭✭thirstywork2

will probably run my own race as went out too hard in clonliffe2miler and too slow in donore 5k.
you must be aiming for sub 33 yourself T-Runner after your good run in Raheny 5k.
If there is a group with me around 5-6k I will be happy out.

Actual times for Raheny were 16 seconds slower than those posted. TBH ill be happy with under 33.30 and as close to 33 as possible. Thats what the gut is telling me. Youre well on for it i reckon.

Have been doing a large volume of 5k pace training so 33 pace shouldnt feel too uncomfortable though. I might go with a group at that pace and hope the oul speed endurance gets me through the last few ks if i cant keep up.

Will suss it out in the first half k or so.
