With Kerry and Cork both on the same points, just wondering if anyone knows if it is points difference or head-to-head that determines who will play Dublin if they both finish on the same points?

There are conflicting tables on the RTE and GAA websites.

RTE.ie has Kerry currently in 2nd based on points difference and imply in their match report from the weekend (Kerry v Monaghan) that Kerry just need to beat Down to reach the final.

GAA.ie has Cork in 2nd based on head-to-head vs Kerry and imply from their match report from the weekend (Mayo v Cork) that Cork just need to beat Armagh to reach the final.

    Cheers

Was listening to RTE Radio 1 in the car on Sunday when they were discussing the relegation battle and that was definitely based on head-to-head meetings if teams finished level on points, so I would be thinking it should be the same for teams hoping to get to the league final.

It's head to head where teams finish level on points.

If Cork bt Armagh at Páirc Uí Chaoimh next Sunday, it's a Dublin v Cork final.

I just think the whole idea of league finals is wrong. You don't see Manchester United and Arsenal play in a Premier League playoff despite the fact that United will probably win by 5 or more points.

A league should be a league where you play all the rounds and whoever finishes top wins the league.

Anyway, not to worry.I think we have got exactly what we want from the league should we win the final or not. We've found what our strengths and weaknesses are and the spine of the team for the championship.

Not really comparing like with like though Blackbelt, the League in Soccer is the ultimate domestic competition, same can hardly be said about the league in GAA and lets face it the more high profile games we have the better, I would imagine a league final between the Dubs and hte current AI champs would be a sell-out and in hurling we have the possibility of Dublin facing KK again a probable sell-out, or KK v Tipp in a repeat of the last 2 AI's would be a massive crowd puller, KK V Waterford or KK V Galway or Waterford prob not as big alright.

Back to hte OP yes it is head to head when two teams are level on points, however if there are more than two teams level it goes to scoring difference.

Only problem I see is the size of the league would have to be bigger to remove the statistical chance of two or three teams finishing on the same amount of points. In the GAA leagues a hand full of teams in each division allows, more often than not, teams to finish on equal points (granted not this year in D1). It would be an anti climax to win it on points/goals scored/head to head.

And its good to have a final early in the championship. I'm sure it helped Cork last year if nothing else but from a psychological point of view.

Final in down for Easter Sunday according to Hill16.ie also took this from same website

"The following are the permutations. If Cork (8pts) beat Armagh, they will qualify for the final irrespective of how Kerry (8pts) fare. Both could finish on ten points but Cork would take the final spot on the head-to-head rule as they beat Kerry in the first round. If Cork draw or lose and Kerry win, then Jack O’Connor’s men will be in the final"
