    Hi,

My jobseekers benefit will run out around the end of July 2011. I want to go onto back to education allowance as I fall under the criteria because I was make reduntant in July 2010. I should know if I got the course soon and I will be applying at that point for the BTEA allowance. My problem is and I have checked this even though I am entitled to BTEA now because the course doesnt start until the middle of Sept there will be a break in my benefits for a couple of weeks and I will then be disqualified for BTEA. It seems harsh but thats they way the system is. So in order for me to keep my BTEA entitlement I will have to qualify for some benefit even a few euros a week and I will then get my BTEA.

I am married to a self employed person and he has submitted his figures for 2010, I think net he will be earning between €350 -€400 a week.
The monthly morgage is €815 and insurance policies attached to this morgage are about €100.
We have one overdraft between us of €1000 and one credit card of about €1000 - no savings and my husband owes some back tax of about €4000 to the revenue.
No other bills as I paid these all with my redundancy.

Does anyone know if I will get any sort of benefit?

    Thanks in advance.
    Blueeyes

We are in a similar situation. My Oh is on BTEA, but when that ends in May, I will be back to work after maternity leave, bringing home around €500 per week and my partner will be entitled to €34.85 per week.

They did not take into account our out goings at all.

Also we have a 6 month old baby, this made no difference either.

The only up-side is as you guys are married your partner can avail of your tax relief as they are transferable between married people.

    Hey,

Thanks for the reply, so your partner will get €34.85 per week from the social welfare?

I know if I get something even a few euros that I'll get the BTEA in full when I start the course.

    Thanks,
