I need to replace the nearside CV boot cover on my car.

I've never done this before. Is there much to it?

There's a few ways of doing it, but you'd need to be fairly competent.

You need to jack the car up / put it on a lift. Remove wheel, brake calipers, brake disc, center cap, nut on drive shaft (Think its an allen key on a VW)

Take out the track rod end and remove the ball joint at the bottom of the strut where it meets the wishbone. This should allow the strut to be pulled out and drop the drive shaft out of the wheel hub.

In behind the CV joint itself, there should be a circlip of sorts holding on the cv joint itself, open this and pop off the joint from the shaft, and fit a new boot. Replace the joint, and pack it with grease and use the banding straps to secure it in place. Re-do the assembly again. Easier said than done though.

You can also remove the whole drive shaft from the gearbox. I'm not 100% if you can just bolt it off or if you pull it out. Note, if you pull it out, all the oil from the gearbox will come out.

If you have a boot stretcher, it would make life much simpler.
