Bonnet Release Honda Civic 3dr 2003 - NCT Issue?

    Hello Everybody,

I have a 2003 Honda Civic 1.4 3dr hatchback and the plastic handle has snapped off the bonnet release inside the car.

The release still works if you grip the metal post (where the handle should be) with pliers and pull.

I currently keep a pair of pliers in the door pocket for such occasions.

I tried to glue it back on with super glue but that didn't hold.

My car is due its NCT at the end of the month and when I checked the NCT Manual and it states:
"Check that the bonnet and boot lid catches are operating properly. In the case of front opening bonnets, ensure that the safety catch is fitted and operating properly."

Does anyone know if my missing handle is likely to cause a fail on the NCT?

    Thanks
    Pete

Yes, the NCT staff must be able to just jump in and pull the bonnet to access the engine bay without any effort.....no pilers or vice grips even if the cable itself works using one of them.
Just buy a new pull cable or handle they're an easy fit even for a novice ,disconnect the cable from the catch on the locking panel and trace it back to the bulkhead ,get inside the car and pull through under the dash to the handle side, fitting is the same but in reverse, simples!

Thanks that has cleared it up for me.

I was pretty sure that was the case, it would make sense, but wanted to check before going to the effort of fixing it.
