I have a teaching interview coming up in Buckinghamshire next month.

I 've already passed the first stage of the interview by phone and was quite impressed with the headmaster etc.,

Has anyone here ever taught in England? and what should I expect?

I know there is a lot more paper work, longer hours and not as much autonomy in the classroom... but can anyone clarify this with experience of it??

Also I know for the 2nd interview Im required to teach a 40min class in front of headmaster and head of dept, anyone gone through this exeperince?

I have over four years experience and am fairly confident still the thoughts
of teaching a full lesson in front of your peers is still a little daunting and reminds me of my Hdip days.

Also if anyone knows th area of High Wycomb in Buckinghamshire, Id be grateful.
googling can only do so much.

Im an art teacher by the way.

    Thanks:)

    Heya mate,

Did my PGCE in Liverpool at Edge Hill Uni. Very good teacher college. I'll give you a rundown of the UK Education system.

As a trainee you will have to complete 33 Standards known as QTS standards. You keep a log (some places require it online others don't). You teach 50%-70% timetable. They are BIG on planning. Make sure you have a lesson plan done out that contains the following:

Lesson Objectives and Outcomes: State clearly what you aim to teach i.e.
Objective: Pupils (never say kids) will learn how to mix paints.
Outcome: Pupils will use mixed paints to colour in drawing (I just picked something random here). These objectives should be left on the board for the entire lesson. Have about 3-4 average unless v.small objectives.

Starter Activity (5-7 mins) Get the class involved using some fun activity e.g. game but make sure it's educational but enjoyable.

Main Activity 1, 2, 3 etc. Break up the main part of your lesson. They are really big on ICT and interactive teaching in the UK. DO NOT USE BOOKS. They are considered a secondary resource and should rarely be used in practicals. I used to rip videos from youtube and insert them on a slideshow.

Plenary: What did they learn. Ask questions and get kids to tell you what they learn. These questions should be based on the objectives. Get kids interactive and involved.

    End of lesson Plan

    Notes
They are very big on differentiation i.e. reaching higher abilities and lower abilities in mixed ability classes. Never aim down the middle. You excluse but the above and below. How will you differentiate the lesson? Use videos? Use images? Hands on learning (kinaesthetic). VAK is Visual - Auditory - Kinaesthetic. This helps all abilities (mainly lower). Challenge the higher abilities in the group. Ask them a particularly difficult question.

Feedback: Praise good effort. Use Q&A, Observational, Written (questions at the end of the lesson perhaps).

Use of resources: What resources did/will you use.

Classroom Management: I always get kids to line up outside my door. It settles them outside and they don't bring the giddyness in with them. I always get the to tidy up a few minutes before the plenary (I teach Technology - Woodwork, Graphics, Construction). I let them good one row at a time. If a kid comes in late to a class don't chaw him/her in front of the group. Ask them to take a seat and then go over to him/her when class are working away. Never leave kids in the room on their own.

Can't think of anything else. Oh pronounce the H in words. Don't say Tree (the number say 'tHree'. Same with think, thing, thin etc. They look at you funny and ask you to say 33 and a 1/3!

    Good luck!

Oh, do out you lesson plan on Excel and tabulate it. Don't just write a bunch of lines. Have it well formateed and no more than 2 pages. Not to small of writing as you might refer to it during your lesson.
