Thinking of purchasing - anyone have it?
Need to get my driving sorted - playing off 9 and not long enough or straight to complete.

    Any suggestions?

Probably better off using the money on lessons rather than a new driver if you are looking to reduce your handicap. What driver do you use now?

Saw them and used them in a simulator. Found the white head off putting. If you can get past that it feels and and hits the ball sweet . I don't trust distance on simulators and would reserve full judgement until you hit it on a course

Why don't you get fitted for a Driver by a professional you know and trust?

I tried the R11 on a Taylor Made demo day in Kinsealy, Karl Herbert was the fitter, started with everything set to neutral, was hitting it ok, 3 adjustments later I was hitting the ball further and with less spin than ever before. Just waiting now for the next TM demo to confirm those settings before I buy.

I haven't hit the club but I reckon I would find the white head off-putting as well. Still, wouldn't mind an oul swing or two with it! :)

I hit a few white drivers at a fitting recently. It was certainly strange to look at but I'm sure I'd get used to it if I liked the clubs enough. What I didn't like was how scruffy and marked they looked after a few months work. As it turned out I REALLY liked the Callaway Diablo Black Tour driver so that's what I'll be using really soon. Can't wait!

How much is one fo these fancypants drivers costing these days? And how much would I get for a scuffed-up, well used Ping G5 in a trade-in?

At least around €330ish, while the TP is around €400 or more.

And id say about a tenner. :D

Best tip is... hang on a few months until all those chumps who bought one off the shelf in McGuirks at full whack start trading them in as they've realised that the grass wasn't greener (or whiter)!

For what it's worth, i know 1 or 2 lads who have the r11 and hit it very well. But them buying it emanated from a fitting session and plenty of trial before buying.

There's no doubt it's a cracking driver... but it's not a one size fits all. No driver is.

If your not going to get fitted get 2nd hand G15 the way to go and spent the money on balls at the range or lessons, that my opinion anyway No excuses with the Ping fitted or not it's a serious performer.

Really though could you live with a white driver it's a fashion accessory IMO. OK a serious performer in it's own right but I reckon their is something wrong, adjustable everything and now WHITE. I think the top drivers are just so similar at the moment, anything to sell a few give it a go!

It's a severe case of the law of diminishing returns. Thing are getting to tight at the top now and large gains are really hard to get from a club or technology(once you have decent one's to begin with) so the most effective way to improve is you actually improving and not the gear.

So I'm going to go out on a limb here and say

    New Driver 400e 5% better
New Fitted driver 450-500e 15% better
Lessons with pro + range time 400e 20%+ improvement

ps Obviously the lower you go the harder it is to find shots so that 5% can be very important I'm speaking in a more general sense

I'm sorry, but that's bull****. The Ping G15 is no more a 'serious performer' in the hands of someone who the club doesn't suit than any other driver out there.

Could you explain what dosen't suit mean's.

Like their is not much difference between any of the top driver's and if ya are able to drive with one you can drive with them all. Obviously optimizing spin and launch angles is a different story. But alas the Ping is a serious performer and if it's not working for you to a certain extent it's more than likely the swing and not the club. So I would maintain the club is a serious performer and if its not the swing is at fault. (Actually the more I read what you said you kinda agree with me the club is not a serious performer in the hands of a someone with a bad swing )!!

What's good for one, is not neccessarily good for another.

Ah yeah i know what you mean I one sense. But i disagree when it comes to top driver's if you can hit one you can hit them all. If you can't hit a G15 you need lessons though. ;) . Scraping the extra bit out of a driver though depends on a good few variables. Which bring me back to my original point and the law of diminishing returns. Best thing to spend scraping the extra bit out of driver is time perfecting a swing IMO.
