    Hi guys,

As the thread title says I have some unpaid college fees, over €700. My exams are coming up soon and I received a letter about them being unpaid and saying please pay so there'll be no problem sitting your exams. I should be able to pay most of them my next payday if I leave myself absolutely skint for the month, but that's only a week before my exams. I'm really worried. Has anyone been in this situation before? What did you do? Any advice welcome.

Borrowing is not an option by the way.

It depends on the college, you need to go speak to the fees office.

I know in some colleges you can take the exams without paying the fees but you won't get your results until you have paid up in full.

I would call and speak to them and discuss your financial arrangements and sort a payment plan so even if you can't pay in full before the exams, they know the money will be coming.

Usually you'll be able to sit exams, but you will not graduate / be able to start the next year without paying up. Definitely check first though, as you wouldn't want to rock up only to find you are not on the list and have no exam paper allocated!

I was in the same boat and went to speak in person with a lady from the exams office. We were able to work something out once she got the go-ahead from her superior. She said a lot of people are having to work out a payment plan, so don't delay and cause yourself any more stress. And make sure your payments are realistic so you don't have too much trouble meeting them...
    Best of luck

You can probably still sit your exams but they may be under no obligation to give you your results unless you have paid up?? I dunno though.

They are starting to get everything ready for the exams in colleges around the country, and they like to "try" have everything in order (know who is sitting what etc).

If you dont pay your fees, you can still sit your exams - they cannot stop you entering an exam hall or sitting your exam (albeit you will have to make sure you figure out what exams you are sitting), but they will not disclose your results until you pay. At that, there may be a late fee. Also, you probably wont show on the roll call for the exam, so the supervisor will be asking who you are (but they cannot stop you sitting the exam).

Your best bet is to talk to the admissions/fees office. If they see that you are genuinely going to pay your fees next pay cheque, you will be fine. But please, dont go in and say you are going to pay it and you dont, as your name will be known.

You should go and talk to the fees office, I had this problem at Christmas- was freaking out about not having the money in time and the lady in the office told me not to worry about it until after my exams- in all think I had an extension of about 2 months. Paid the fees and got my results.

So don't panic, the college is there to help, can't imagine they would want you dropping out over it.
