We have had learners query when they should check the blindspot moving off.

Please remember on the driving test it is very important to check your blindspot before you move.

We find it is easier for you, if:
    Select gear.
Check mirrors. (if you wish you can check all around)
    If it is safe, indacate.
    Blindspot.
    And then move off.

We inquired with the RSA and were told the best time to check blindspot is just before you move.

We hope this will help solve any confusion.

Very good point above. If you check your blindspot, then do other manouevers and then go to move off, something could easily have moved into your blindspot in the intervening time. Check it just before you make any move, just to be sure to be sure. This can also be essential if you're about to open your door out onto a road! Always check it out!!!

That's what my instructor told me to do, and it's definitely the most logical way.

I think more people get confused at blindspots when changing lanes. It's not the same order is it?

    What I do.
    Check mirrors.
Quick blindspot check, THEN signal (to make sure I'm not indicating, making the person who's in my blindspot think I haven't seen them - remember while moving off traffic is probably going faster, on a multi-lane road, it's possibly the same speed).
Blindspot check again just before I move over.

    Is that right?

That's all good....... Just add this as you are moving over. "Remember to keep an eye in front and in the side mirror as you are moving over to other lane."
