Hilly A3/A4 races in Ireland?

I've done a few races close to Dublin and I've noticed that most of them are mostly flat although there's loads of killer climbs in the Dublin/Wicklow mountains. As far as I've noticed most events that include some of these climbs are sportifs (or whatever you call them) and I will never understand the point of paying for going out on a non-race ride so don't recommend those please:)

So my questions are: what are the races that include climbs of at least say 150m of difference in altitude? and when are they? I'm looking for races close to Dublin but if there's anything really good further away, I wouldn't mind checking it out:) Basically anything that would tear the bunch into bits would good:)

    All the tips are appreciated!
    Karl

    Edge Sports Classic
Munster Sun 10-Apr RR A1/A2/A3/A4 The Edge Sports Classic The Edge CC Tim Barry 0868105302/tim.barry@heineken.ie 100k/80k 1pm Butlers Bar, Minane Bridge, Co. Cork

Watched it last year, never saw a feld so ripped apart in my life....what few stayed in the race were going by in two and threes near the end. Hills not long just steep and lots of them!

So...........what's the (A4) Edge Sports Classic route ? does anyone have a RideWithGPS or MapMyRide link for it ?

The Roundwood GP tends to split apart on the hills. Not a mountainous course by any stretch but it is selective for the climbers if that's what you're after.

So we have des hanlon (march), roundwood (august?). Any more that tend to split it up (in leinster)?

The Stamullen GP (this month) goes up a big hill, though it's too far from the finish to be decisive, but the finish is also on a small rise in Stamullen village.

I'm not sure that the August Roundwood GP is hilly enough to be selective, it's only got 2 short hills which the group usually doesn't have any issue flying up. There is another race based in Roundwood which is much hillier though - maybe in May?

I found this activity on Garmin Connect of somebody who did the Edge Sports Classic last year. I don't know if the route is the same this year.

Last years Eddie Tobin Memorial was on a hilly course near Bunclody, Co Wexford. Finish on top of 2/3km drag. No details of this years race yet on website http://www.slaneycyclingclub.com/?page_id=5

Also Leinster champs this year according to CI calendar

    Check out our club league and circuits here;

    http://www.swordscc.com

Starts with a hill-climb TT up Ardgillan near Skerries, and a couple of the circuits are definitely on the hilly side (Corduff and Garristown/Ardcath), certainly enough for you to split up the race and make the ahem, "stockier" riders suffer.

The Edge Sports Classic is to be highly recommended- the video is the extended lap being used this year-Circuit is slightly different- now the lap is 10 miles long- takes out the very steep descent into the village (which after the winter is covered in holes.)
Also the organisation of this race is fantastic.

Just wondering how hilly is the John Beggs memorial race in Dromore tomorrow?

It certainly does. It has steep hills, long drag hills, lumpy hills, ones that doesn't look much but wait till you climb it, the whole shebang.

Another front bunch finish for me, I went for it when I thought there was about 300m to go, when in reality there was another km to go - which would explain why nobody else "went for it" at the time!! I blew up well before the finishing line to come in on the bunch's tail.

Great event, well organised, very enjoyable and another top drawer effort by Carrick Wheelers. The A4 pedelton behaved themselves too, made it very safe too.

    My garmin stats are here.
