Dell Inspiron 1521 won't boot

Have a Dell Inspiron 1521 that won't boot - it was working fine earlier, I left the room for about a half an hour and came back and it was off. I have tried the trick of draining the power (unplug, take out battery & press on button for about 30 seconds and then plug back in power, no battery & turn on) but it won't work still.
There is no noise, just the lights for the "on", "Bluetooth" and "battery" indicators flash a few times and nothing else. The light for the hard drive doesn't flash.

Any suggestions of what may be the issue and how I can fix it?

Can't be sure in 100% , but it seems like a mobo failure (hopefuly i'm wrong). Did You check RAM modules? How many times the lights flashing?

Any more details on the lights?
Which lights come on, and how many times do they blink?

Have you tried powering on without the battery in it?

Have you tried booting with each RAM module removed (One at a time)?

There's nothing in the cd drive or anything plugged into the usb ports or any other ports?

Thanks everyone for the replies - I have tried powering without the battery.
the lights just flash for a few seconds, and there is no noise from the hard drive, or laptop itself.
I am not experienced enough to open the laptop up and tinker around with it, so I think that I will drop it into a repair place in Dublin, I was thinking of Computer Fix on Aungier Street. But does anyone have any other recomendations on places to bring it to be checked?
I have done a bit of googling & think it may be the motherboard.

Try removing the RAM modules one at a time

    Where abouts are you based?

EDIT: i had suggested removing the RAM modules one at a time, usually fairly straight forward, but on that model, it also involves removing the keyboard.

This has happened to be me before. The connection between the Ram and mobo basically get loose. You just have to pop out the ram give it a blow and pop it back in.
