No More Dell XPS 15 inch Core i7 laptops?

Hi guys, I've been speccing out a laptop on the Dell site. A while back I configured an XPS 15 with 1080p, backlit keyboard and a quad core i7 (2720QM). Now it seems that these options are no longer available. You can only get an i5 and no backlit kb.

These laptops are still available from Del USA along with a host of other cool options. Anyone know what happened? Will Dell do a custom build if you ring them?

I was in the same situation, had my stuff specced out but then they changed the models.

This is pretty weird as they just removed the new Sandy Bridge processors even when they are available in pretty much any other countrys Dell site. The XPS's with Sandy Bridge are the new generation of XPS 15's, the L502. Are they flogging the rest of the old generation to Ireland with outdated specs and all?

Anyways I rang them up and got an order in for the laptop. It was like a week after the changes on the website. I remembered the exact specs of the base configuration with 2630qm etc at 919€ (I think) and cited the sales rep the offer they had had on the XPS's that should've gone on until 23th of March and I got my order through. Or actually I JUST got the order through because they made a mess of it three times and it took me three weeks to get the order properly in their system.

I chose the 2630qm because seems to be just shy of 2720qm performance wise, and the premium for the latter is/was like 200€. The base config had 640gb HDD, 4gigs ram, 540m gfx card. Also I upgraded the display to Full HD and got a backlit kb for it.

You can still view the Core i7 models for the XPS 15 line. Head over to dmxdimension.com (here) and browse the various coupon codes the XPS 15. When you see the model you want, simply insert the code into the correct place in the URL for the Irish store, for example take:

    http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=n00xl503&c=ie&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ieepp1&model_id=xps-15

and change the attribute 'oc=n00xl503' to 'oc=N00X5M06' giving (the above URL is truncated, so you will need to open it in a new tab).

    http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=N00X5M06&c=ie&l=en&s=dhs&cs=ieepp1&model_id=xps-15

Some codes won't work, but the above one does :)
