Just wondering if anyone on here has one of these? And if so, how do you find it for ease of use? Amazon are doing them at the moment for £170 off the normal price and you seem to get a reasonable amount for your money. Twin freesat tuners, Blu-Ray recording, 250gb internal hard drive (the 500gb version is £230 dearer!). Also, can you copy a large file from the internal HD to an external unit via the USB port, or can you only copy to a blank Blu-Ray disc? That's the main drawback of the Humax that i currently have; you can't copy anything larger than 4gb and if you record a film or a football match off one of the HD channels, it will be over 4gb.

A friend has one. Very nice piece of kit. The one 'con' is that it's not the most responsive machine I've seen - there's a noticeable delay in term of pressing a button on the remote and the machine reacting. Channel changes too aren't the speediest.

I thought you could get around that by recording in non-freesat mode?

I considered one of these for ages and decided against it in the end. I have always considered leaving Sky for Freesat+, and this fitted the bill complete with no need for an additional BluRay player, plus it upscales all DVDs to 1080p.

So why did I not buy one? Main reason? Far too many mixed reviews.

If you check out the reviews from the magazines they tended to fare pretty well, but the user reviews on the net (read some on Amazon) tend to complain a lot.

OK so they are fantastically kitted out units, with some very advanced features, but their software and ease of use are not meant to be very good. Very prone to s/w hangups too I think. The lack of response from the remote comes up with nearly every review.

Shame, cos Panny normally do very good quality units in the Home Cinema/TV field.

Hadn't heard that, to be honest. Worth a try though.

File size restriction nothing to do with non-Freesat mode. That is only for ensuring HD files are not encrypted.
You can get around the FAT32 file size restriction by using an external disk drive which is formatted in linux ext3.
