becoming a pharmacist in america???

    Anyone got any experience of registering as a pharmacist in the united states from ireland?
    i know you have to do an entrance exam but looking for info on how hard it is etc and how different pharmacy is over there.
    any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Pharmacist registration is going to be on a state by state rather than a national basis. Have a look on the sdn forums as there is a pharmacy section there. It will require visa sponsorship by your employer (I think the logistics of getting registered and getting a job on the 1 year J1 would be too complicated).

    As far as i can make out, the regulations for registering vary from state to state but as a general rule, you need to have completed a 5 yr curriculum to register if you graduated after 2003, 4 if you graduated earlier.

    You have to do a certificate in cigarette sales too I think :D

    Pharmacy in America is v commercial. I was there two years ago and my sister needed something for an insect bite she got. I went into the pharmacy with her but didn't mention I was a pharmacist (since I don't work in the community). After waiting 20 minutes to speak to the pharmacist, this girl appeared and she hadn't a clue. Eventually I walked away and picked a few things up from the shelf and bought them. It left me wondering at the standard of education they receive in the US.
