Anybody ever try this themselves. Did it look acceptable or did u make a hoors handbag out of it?
Would u recommend it or leave it. Any tips?

Im not talking about fully blacked out mafia slash skanger mobile just a nice 20/25% tintage on the back window and rear aswell.

its hard to do and easy to mess up, for the price of the tint i'd say its best to leave it to professionals. I have tried it, used soapy water to put it on, had a few little bubbles and didn't really get smooth cuts on the trimming but looked ok from the outside, but was far rom a perfect job

Whats the limit for the NCT anyway?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

It must allow 65% light through.

There's too many variables to say if it looks good or not. Some cars look good with tinted windows other don't, the colour of the car also plays a part in looking good or not.

Don't forget that most car windows have a bit of tint in them already so 20/25% may push you over the limit.

Thats for the two front windows and windscreen only. With the rear windows you can go as dark as you like. Personally I'd only tint the rears anyway.

Do you not think a car with rear tinted windows look a bit like a commercial?

My car has a factory tint on the rear windows but theirs no way I would try something like that. Whores handbag X 1001 :p

Well I'm a big fan of Jap imports many of which come with a factory tint on the rear windows. Looks good on them IMO.

i like the looks of the back window dark, but it's a right pain to reverse at night

Depends on the colour of the car, I don't really like tints on silver, I saw a red car with tints and loved it so I ran out and got my own done

I availed of a special offer at the time and got the fronts done too, I have since removed them though

I hate all round tints they turn a car into a skangermobile. Your car looks a lot better now with just the rears tinted. I love that colour on a car.

I have my (black) Passat done all round. Got the lightest one they did at the time, and think it looks well - especially with the wind deflectors.

I think only having the back windows done looks stupid - unless you're driving a limo or something :) Plus in my case I used to have a lot of valuable computer gear in the car a lot of the time, so there was the security aspect too.

Guess I'll put it through the NCT in January and see how we get on..

Dark tint on the back 3 windows and light tint on the front.

weirdly enough, I feel naked when I drive a car without tint. Will take me a while to get used to it.

I was thinking of doing this to my red car too. I'd like to see what it would look like with tints. I'm crap at imagining these things.

I like the idea of dark back windows and lighter front ones

How much does it cost to get back window tinted and 2 back seats windows professionally? always thought about it

I dont realy like it, Alot of car design is down the ballance and symmetry and having just the rear windows tinted ruins the flow of the design i think.

On coupes and hatches it looks great I think. For saloons it really does depend on the car. Some saloons look rubbish with tints whereas they really suit other saloons.

tints on silver and white cars always look rank imho , but a heavy tint on the back windows and a moderate one on the front (if you can get away with that sort of thing) look well on a lot of cars , red blue and black especially

I think there are a few Korean cars available that don't have any tint in their windows from the factory.

Dont I know about it!! Sometimes turn on the rear fogs so I can see more!

Decent factory tint is enough. Aftermarket tint sucks camel d**k

Stock - if the car is fitted with a little tint from factory it's ok.
I won't add stuff just to look cool cruising Mullingar/downtown LA.

Nothing to do with looking cool for me. I preferred the look of the car with the black on red

Mine are tinted for privacy and security, very little to do with looks.

    Right.

I'm sure it's great for the kids. The sun can be very strong sometimes ;)

Commercial Landcruiser that sometimes carries stock - limo tint on the rear window and light tint on the fronts to make the windows a little more smash-proof.

It's the first time I've ever put tinting on my car windows, but I have to admit I'm a convert. I like the bit of privacy (I'd probably go for medium tint on the front windows next time), I like the additional feeling of security and I like the fact that the car doesn't heat up on one of our very rare sunny days.

Functional, and if done tastefully, can add to the look of the vehicle too. :)

So what your saying is that I had to have mine tinted because I want to look cool driving around Mullingar?

This may surprise you but humans are capable of independent thought and what one person finds appealing another may not like. I like how it makes my car look, others also like how it makes my car look. If it's not for you then fair enough but don't imply that it makes me a knob that 'cruises' around towns

Onkle, most times I see heavy tinting is on cruisemobiles driven by boy racers, so that's were I was coming from.
Not sure what weather is like where you are but if I lived in a very sunny place then tinting would definitely be on the table.
